Mr Lord, a juggernaut but also beautifully delicate. A gentleman and genius. RIP great man

Blackmore got the idea for the opening riff from a Bulgarian folk song he heard on short wave radio. Deep Purple did tend to "borrow" things and put their own unique spin into them.

This one is underappreciated. When that bass line hits...

Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord do it again. Great song!! Vocals and bass hit it too.

Wow ! What an intro by Ian Paice !! Not many drummers can play that !! Often overlooked, this song is so smooth and rolling. I remember driving down the highway and there were gentle hills and valleys matching up with the song. Just beautiful! Excellent execution by all members !! What a BAND !!

When people react to Deep Purple this song is often missed. However, it has always been one of my favourites and I have not heard another track where the whole band have sounded more totally in harmony.

Okay you just said you did Highway Star so but if you haven't done the studio version oh yeah you got to go that route

It's a bit odd with benefit of Live Purple, every machine head song is stronger live (except "pictures...), eg made in Japan, and any well recorded concert. Insofar as studio versions only, "in rock" is my personal fave :)

Never liked Machine Head that much. Good album, sure, but over-polished. Too much smoothing the rough edges. An album needs rough edges. Go back to 1970 and lend your ear to Deep Purple In Rock. Lots of rough edges there and your ears will be pleased to hear them. Damn, the rough edges is all you'll hear and you'll be so glad they're there. Lord, Blackmore, sitting or standing there with their flies open to the world, and playing wrong for all to hear. The best sound ever heard. Love and well-wishes from Belgium.
