One of the things I love best about DP is how well the music holds up over time. It's just as relevant and kickass as it was back then.

Whitesnake doesn't have anything similar with Zeppelin. May be Coverdale was sounded like Plant when they did some project with Jimmy Page. But Whitesnake era was it's own style, very original and heavy. I found that many americans thinks that rock music consists mainly of Led Zeppelin🤭. I prefer Deep Purple and Rainbow.

The only similarity with Plant is the high stuff , but its not Plant Its soul guys of before . They all had the same background. All the screechy stuff . James brown , Wilson pickett , David ruffin , Steve marriot ... Its not Plant .

Great to see you’re doing more of the unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal. I really like all these three bands and even though ”Stormbringer” isn’t my favorite DP album, it’s still an enjoyable solid piece of work. IMO Uriah Heep should be right on the heels of these three and I’d suggest you to review at some point one or more of the albums ”Salisbury”, ”Look At Yourself”, ”Demons and Wizards” and ”The Magician's Birthday”.

In spite of the negative reaction to it at the time, I think the album stands the test of time very well. In many ways it sounds a more confident and polished performance than Burn, particularly with the way Coverdale and Hughes work together. Blackmore was already semi-detached from the band at this point, I think the first Rainbow album was already recorded, but his performances are still outstanding.

It’s a great album. Try to listen it again, personally I think it’s better than a burn ,mainly because of the gypsy ,Stormbringer, soldier of fortune, hold on. I was never impressed with burn anyway. Critics actually liked the album back then ,praising it as a step up compared to previous one, they just said ,purple toned down a little bit. I have to correct you for one thing ,Ritchie didn’t collaborated wit Dio,he actually made a star out of him and turn him into a legend because of Rainbow classics. He’s band elf was a deep purple opening for mark 3.

Blackmore didn't like the way they were headed. He thought it wasn't as hard as he wanted. You can see Hughes was bringing the funk. Blackmore called it shoeshine music. You've gotta check out Glenn Hughes first solo album, Play me out. You wanna hear a funky white boy. Good to see ya. Love this album, wore it out when it came out. Peace

You'll have to get to Whitesnake eventually. Coverdale, Lord, and Paice were all in an early lineup. Great bluesy hard rock, before the "hair metal" years of the late 80's and early 90's, not that there was anything wrong with those years. A lot of love songs, but not so much "sappy" ones lol, more on the dirty side.

Ritchie hated Hold On. He reportedly did the solo in one take, wrong notes and all, and refused to try again. I love the song (and the whole album), but Ritchie left the band because of it.

Hold On is one of my favourite Blackmore solos. I believe he played it with his thumb instead of a pick. He used a screwdriver as a slide for the Holy Man solo.

Ritchie did Emaretta in 1969 . The funk argument is Bull... It had also funky stuff in flight of the rat , livin wreck , Nonono etc... And stuff like You can't do it right ( its his Riff ) , and Even the original The man of silver moutain is funky

Bro, you're right not to get in to any of the bands that came out of the Led Zep "mystique". Certainly, Whitesnake would never come close. Upon its release, Stormbringer was generally considered by fans and critics alike to be a disappointment. It had more of a "soulful" sound than previous albums (not that that was why it was considered a disappointment, it was just that the fans couldn't hear any "essential" songs on it for the DP canon). I'm not saying that it was a bad album, it was just down a notch from their previous releases. It was said that the more soulful direction was why Blackmore quit to form his hard rock combo Rainbow. I don't think that Coverdale was as good as Gillan - different in style, yes, but nowhere near as good. You're right about Paice - always underrated. The most underrated DP album is Fireball, especially Side B - still their best start-to-finish vinyl side of music. By the way, yours is the best "reaction" channel - authentic, considered, cool, and I like how you do albums rather than just focusing on one-off big hits that seem to go around the other reaction channels in waves of fashion. Best wishes.

@@dario3444able Thanks for your reply, Dario; I appreciate it. Regarding what I said about critics and fans being disappointed with Stormbringer, I think that you're right to say that I was being too harsh. On reflection, and from what I can remember at the time, I think that the reviews by the British rock critics were mixed - some good, some bad. Perhaps there were better reviews in other countries; I don't know. Please don't get me wrong; I was a huge fan of Deep Purple and had seen them in concert in May '74 for the Burn tour with some friends. We thought that the show was fantastic and that Coverdale and Hughes were sensational replacements for Gillan and Glover. We loved Burn. Since your comment, I've listened to Stormbringer another 3 times (which must make about 53 times in my life) and I still say that it is below the quality of their previous releases. I thought that what Blackmore would go on to do with Rainbow was more interesting, and I loved that. But Stormbringer? In my opinion, Dario, it's not one of the great Deep Purple albums. For me, it's probably somewhere in the middle. As a hardcore Deep Purple fan since 1972, I can rely on my personal experience for an opinion. I do admit to sometimes referring to Wikipedia; but for facts only, such as date of album release, number of weeks in charts, etc. Anyway, I genuinely admire your passion for rock music and I wish you the very best in your life for the years ahead.

David is obviously growly . ut Halford was doing it in also especially live in 1973 . And in Cheater , and In victim of changes , island of domination..but victim of changes , after glenn solo. ..that was pretty extreme for Mid 70's

@@Nissardpertugiu I don't doubt that for a second! That's why I said _metal_ growl. We all know that the blues, early R&B, etc are the groundwork for rock, and then modern metal... and we are grateful!! (Can anyone say _Robert Johnson??_ )

@@Nissardpertugiu Yeah, there were some earlier growly bits, even by Ian Gillan, but that straight, purposeful growl David did was just too perfectly... _metal._ 🤘😁

@@AGDinCA yeah . It got amplified , on the tour And even come taste the band , where live David is already in whitesnake kind of style . But very violent too . To this day The thing with David its very Dark tone . Mystique . That stuff and the fact he ventilate a lot ( thats what makes the thing sexy or bestial with him , and thats what makes his way of vocals and growls and support breath very exhausting and hard . People bash him nowadays , especially 87 fans that didnt get it at all , " his voice shot " no he always did it ! But they don't realize how heavy it is to put the way he does to sound right ) . I have a 1978 live where its very interesting . Its all kind of in between heavy blues , Soul / Funk / fusion . Hard rock ... Baroque ... lets say Heavy metal or pre speed stuff . Between songs as Come on , Mistreated , or the John lord solos , with tritonics riffing guitars joining in it . David scream very horror like.. neil bass playing . And Dave dowle weird style . Take me with you in its first version then before trouble . With a very Doomy dark Segment in the middle . With David Roaaaring ... Of course , that kind of stuff back dirtier in Coverdale page . Kind of metal howlin wolfy meets David ruffin stuff ... The outake Saccarhiii , you should listen that . David growl is just PERFECT and Its HEAVY . It influenced me a lot . Pagey is very heavy at this time .
