Experience how much fuel does your car use off road, how much food do you eat over a month, what parts on your car do you usually break, only way to work it out is to do smaller trips and learn The smaller things people forget about is the like of haveing reliable tide charts, even for coastal driving, and knowing the climate and likey weather your going to hit The mistake I always make is running out of bread, bread goes moldy super quick in the humidity but wraps last weeks

Drove this track quite a few times back in the 90s when I worked for Striker Resources. I imagine you would have gone past where we used to pump water from Beta Creek and the airstrip at the base of the escarpment once you crossed over the Berkeley River. The track was more used back then with Oombulgurri open. You can still see the old Ashmore and Seppelt workings on Google Earth. We used to drive up as far up the King George River we could get then walk into the falls quite often as well. This vid brings back a lot of memories.

I've had to do a similar repair to my old Hilux radiator. That repair was still holding after two years and was still there when I traded it in on my Colorado. I still carry similar putty everywhere! One thing that sold me on choosing the Colorado was the fact that the alternator is mounted up high on the motor, well away from water or mud!

The DMAX is the stand out vehicle here. IFS is always bashed as being inferior to live axle vehicles, but the DMAX was arguably the most reliable vehicle in the convoy for this trip, except for the power steering which isn't a show stopper. I recon if it was fitted with 33" MT tyres and a better front bar it would have been just as capable as the rest to.

A trail fix I learned when I was younger is to carry a shaker of black pepper for radiator leaks. This one was big, but it probably would help anyway. The black pepper will be attracted to the "exit" and will help seal the area until a proper fix can be done.

Hay guys another great show throughly enjoyed it, but if I can recommend one thing you should always take is a can of body bog, on the farm I used to hole the radiator of the tractor working in the scrub all the time, and some of the holes you could put your thumb through. I would clean up the area similar to what you guys did and then mix up the bog and jam it in, through and over the damaged area and it would not take long to set up. I would normally wait over night for full cure, never had a failure even under pressure and some of our radiators had up to five large repairs. There is also enough bog in the can to do a couple of decent repairs.
