That's great! Glad you enjoyed it, Peter👍 It wasn't too muddy when I did it, but extremely wet! Interesting to know it's not always like that, as I'd like to head up there and explore along Black Harry path some time. Many thanks for watching and for the feedback👍👍

Thanks for posting this Des. We have walked along the Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt Edges a number of times and it was interesting to see the opposing view. The stone quarries are fascinating. We have many old chalk pits in Suffolk used for lime and cement production decades back, they are notoriously dangerous being so unstable. I would much rather be out there in the rain than stuck behind my desk - I envy you. Keep filming and uploading.

Hi there! Yes, I went up along the edges the day before, so was looking to try a new route. I really enjoyed this one as it was quiet, and nice varied terrain. The river/path down was fun also! 😁 Many thanks for your support! Catch you soon👍😊

Thanks for sharing this beautiful walk with us Des, the historic aspect of it was definitely interesting to hear about. The sound of the river and the sheep were lovely, although it looked like the weather wasn't in your favor. But you made the best of it! Thanks for showing us around and giving us a taste of the area. I'll have to try some of these treks myself! Stay safe and dry on your next adventure! 🌧🐑🌊🌲🚶‍♂🚶‍♀👍

I really enjoyed this one. Fascinating to see the old quarry and mine, and I've been meaning to check out some of the places that bear Black Harry's name for a while. The waterfall footpath was an added bonus! Great fun👍😁

Hi Des that was a real historic place to walk by the sound of it when you mentioned Black Harry and his thieving ! Horrible he got put on display to deter others. Good thing you weren't waking there in the 18th century haha . Did enjoy this especially the sound of the river and seeing the sheep but you did look cold and wet. Thanks for showing us around :) ~ Anna 👍

Hi Anna. It was an interesting walk. I'd like to head back up there in better weather and explore a bit more along Black Harry path. It wasn't difficult to imagine how dangerous and sinister it must have been there on a dark night! Diolch yn fawr am wylio! Hwyl👍😊

Evening Des, another great video. Not familiar with this route so this was particularly nice to see. That view over the quarry was awesome indeed! Nice to hear about Black Harry the highwayman! That path through Rough Side and Coombs Dale was indeed rather moist, looks like you needed your wellies with you! 😁 Enjoyed watching you on this walk as always. Have a great weekend 👍
@DesGreene

Hi Patrick. That path back down was great fun...but definitely suited to decent boots or wellies! 😁 I'll have to explore up that Black Harry path some time. The history really fires my imagination, and it looked like it was largely unspoilt by the mining industry. Hope your weekend is going well. All the best & many thanks for watching👍😊

Thanks Kaat! I really enjoyed it as it was a new route for me. The punishment does seem harsh, and I believe that "gibbeting" the corpses was stopped around this period after public protests. Hope all is well with you & Frodo!👍😊

Good evening Des 😊 Looks like a wet & muddy route. Good effort for getting out and about regardless of the weather. Lots of quarrying and mining history along the way, always a good point of interest. I’ve not walked in this particular area but would consider it. Thanks.

Hi Dan. This walk turned into a real wet one! We did have a cold snap for a few days, just after I filmed it. I guess we do need the rain after the dry summer, but I'm definitely looking forward to signs of springtime! 😁 Hope you are doing OK👍 Really appreciate you watching!

Brilliant video, I can give you a little update on a few things in your video where you mention the first site of mine working as you pass the shaft, you are actually walking along what was known as Red Rake. Deep rake was back filled with tailing sludge from out of the settlement dams of the processing plant at Cavendish Mill above Stoney Middleton. Deep Rake was roughly 300 feet deep, Deep Rake also split in 2, the Rake closest to the track was actually called Bow Rake with Deep Rake continuing along the far wall. All the Rake's were mined for mainly fluoride with lead, barite, and limestone as byproducts, opencast mining in Deep Rake ceased in 2018. The area you described as a old flooded quarry is actually where Laporte minerals constructed a dam wall across the top of Combs dale to hold waste tailings after processing, it was known as number 4 dam, the biggest dam up there. I worked in the opencast mines as a machine operator and driller for 7 1/2 years before mining underground at Milldam mine in Great Hucklow from 2012 to 2020. Hope this was helpful.

Hi Dean. Many thanks for such an informative comment! Such an interesting area around there. I had tried to find out a bit more about it, but still found a lot was unclear to me as I did the walk. Great to hear from someone who knows the place properly, to fill in some of the gaps! All the best and thanks again for your information👍

Looked a bit on the muddy side but typical for the time of year and given it is a walk up to an old quarry it was always going to be muddy. Nice to have a quiet walk and enjoy the walk to yourself and that quarry sure was an awesome sight, as well as deep. My grandson is called Harry but I am sure he is no relation to Black Harry 😁. Absolutely fatal mentioning the rain was stopping but at least you seem to enjoy it (the walk not the rain), cheers Alan
@DesGreene
@DesGreene Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan! It really wasn't that muddy surprisingly, just an absolute river on that path back down! I'm sure your grandson Harry knows how to make you "stand and deliver!" like a true highwayman!👍😁 All the best & catch you soon 👍😊

Hi Nicole. I'm hoping to head back up there some time and explore along Black Harry lane, it looked an interesting path! I might also check out the nature reserve. I'm not sure how long it has been open, so it might still be a bit soon for nature to have taken over fully 😁 Many thanks for watching & have a lovely weekend👍😊
