An awesome commentary for an awesome kickass movie! First saw it by taping it from TV on VHS in the 90s and just a week ago found an used DVD of it and I had a blast revisiting. 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

For me Deep Rising is 50 50. 50% good and 50% bad, but that's mainly the CGI effects in the film. I was quite surprised when I discovered the movie in mid 2022 - thanks to the Dead Meat Podcast on Deep Rising - that the film was written and directed by Stephen Sommers the guy who would later write and direct my favourite 1999 movie The Mummy. And Kevin J. O'Connor who played Beni in The Mummy is in Deep Rising as Joey Pantucci. Also I love the music in Deep Rising. It's composed by the late Jerry Goldsmith who did music for hugely known movies like Rambo (1982), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Planet Of The Apes (1968), Alien (1979), Poltergeist (1982), The Secret Of NIMH (1982), Gremlins (1984), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), Air Force One (1997), Mulan (1998) and The Mummy (1999). Personally my two favourite Jerry Goldsmith film scores are The Mummy and The Secret Of NIMH. I grew up with both those movies and they're soundtracks. But with my trivia of Jerry Goldsmith out of the way, Deep Rising is ok and fine in my books. It's worth watching since it's a cult classic. And one more thing: Rest in peace to Treat Williams who played John Finnegan. Sadly died in a motorcycle accident in June this year at 71.

I know this episode is two years old, but i have to say my scifi lovijg dad took me to this when i was around 12 and it was glorious in thestres. It really deserves a showing with a Kevin O Connor panel. RIP Treat.

The CGI is bad but the movie is fun. This could have been a franchise with the same leads going on random monster adventures.

Quick take: 3 great creature features , The Blob 88, Deep Rising, Nope. All ten years apart.

Those space guns are real, it’s called a Calico M995. It has a tubular magazine where the bullets are stored in a single helix. I’m not a gun guy

Just watched it free on Tubi. Damn!!!!! Better then anything else in 1998 for sure and as far as I'm concerned is up there with jordan peels Nope.

I always liked this one, however it has been a long time since I've seen it. I began thinking about this classic after the sad news of Treat Williams passing (R.I.P. Treat). I'd love my fiancée and her son to see this one. As always great episode guys!

This was ABSOLUTELY supposed to be a King Kong prequel. They land on Skull Island.
@thomaslozano41359 ай бұрын
Huh that's interesting Sommers was gonna do a King Kong remake after Deep Rising even thou Peter Jackson was supposed to remake it back 1996 to 1997 but the studio shit canned it cuz of Sean's favorite Godzilla movie (1998) and Mighty Joe Young (1998) according to the Origins of Kong DVD bonus feature but PJ ended up doing a small movie called The Lord of the Rings afterwards lol. I'm glad Sommer didn't do it and instead did The Mummy (1999) with Universal. Probably from the studio to Sommers as to make up for him not doing Kong. That's my theory anyway.

The 1994 Jungle Book also had Lena Headey, Sam Neil, Cary Elwes, John Cleese, and Jason Scott Lee in it. What a cast!

I've gotta revisit it, that is a stacked cast! The anaconda at the end always scared the crap out of me, which I'm guessing I mention in the episode haha. Thanks for watching! -Sean

yup Jason Scott Lee was a bad ass

Yeah Jungle Book is good but very underrated movie. I seen this movie a lot as a kid growing up. It's odd it's not on any streaming services, especially Disney + if you think about it. You have to buy either the old VHS or DVD for the movie.

I've always loved this movie. I was hoping for the sequel. You even see the skull on skull island at the end. I'm not sure but I was kinda hoping for a really dark and horror approach to King Kong. You guys should check out The Relic, if you like monster movies like this and Alien. You both might like it 😀

I have this love for water horror films in general, so I revisit this film yearly as well as Leviathan, Deep Star Six, and Virus. You guys should do Virus. Nobody ever does Virus and there's a lot of cool shit in there and the comic it is based on is very interesting and well drawn.
