I've always felt that the in the end, that man you're chasing is actually your earlier self. So if you catch him, its still you're body, but its the death screen from the first game. If you let him go, he ends up going on the same journey that you do, thus it's actually continuing the cycle.
@thespreer21424 жыл бұрын

@SarkenHS4 жыл бұрын
That could explain the notes "he left for himself". Though it's still sound a bit much to me, but it's far from impossible. Could also explain why the man escaping as the end seems to escape from the same hallway we're escaping from in the first game, as since it's a dream, it shouldn't be the same dream for another person, though it's quite vague as to how much in the "same dream" people can get (aka the traveler from the second game).
@thurowaway4 жыл бұрын
but letting him go also makes the cycle continue, since the protag from the first game went back to deep sleep for the second game. so the cycle never really ends either way
@lpfan44914 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the idea of that happening would be more clear if he fails to get himself and then he dies from the light in the first game. So all he really did was erase himself. Now, that feels like it is not happening because he got the guy and he surely would not want to return. He was curious if it was real, he knows the answer.

The Don't Escape trilogy can be appreciated as a series in that you can see the games improve and become more polished, but you don't really need to play them to appreciate it fully. The Deep Sleep trilogy is absolutely best experienced as a complete story together. The good ending is certainly where you don't steal the body, but that's a pretty dark good ending. In most cases where you have to sacrifice yourself, you're at least dead. Here though, you're just seemingly trapped for eternity. It's a strong note to end the trilogy on.

"You don't have a career if I don't look at you" Exactly what you should say to all those monsters under the bed or in the closet lol. That fear of sleep is ancient - the idea of being trapped in a dream, in your sleep, in a coma touches on a relatable fear of never waking up. Many little children are taught to say prayers about their souls being cared for if they should die before they wake. This was an excellent free game series. The ambiance, sound effects, lighting, & the jump scares have remained solid even tho the first game is almost 10 years old. Thank you for bringing this to us fresh.

Pretty sure it's a cycle game, and the ending where you dont posses their body is canon. The guy we chased out was us in the first game, running after we saw the Shadow Person for the first time. By not taking that body, you've allowed the cycle to continue. He doesn't wake up, he just dreams until he comes back to this world in a lucid state, and gets killed at the end of Deeper Sleep. I assume that by possessing his body you actually wake up from the Coma you're in, and I think your name is Bert and the mysterious bloke is also Bert. Hes aware of the fact you're a new cycle and avoids you because he knows what will happen, and I think the crazy person in the attic(Felicity) is another version of Trapped Bert, that hes just disowned. Sort of like the Cat In The Box game, it's an endless loop that can only be ended by becoming the monster and possessing your latest cycle.

*spoilers* so if we asume that this man is in a coma, and the "dream" is an eternal loop of "escape the shadow people, become the shadow people" we could teorize that the "other traveler" from the second game was ALSO yourself after becoming a shadow person so it goes like this you escape from your shadow self, and kill some shadow people you meet your shadow self as "another traveler", it warns you about dangers meaby your shadow self or another shadow person turns you into one you wonder around as a shadow person until you find and either spare or hunt your past self if you spare it, you probably realize this, and try to warn your past self in diferent ways to wake up, but you fail.
@Nakima6664 жыл бұрын
With the way the door slides shut in the end, doesn't that imply that the dream world isn't bound by time, and the Deepest version protagonist is chasing after the Deep version protagonist? So by 'holding back' and not wanting the cycle to continue, the Deepest version protagonist is continuing the cycle because the Deep version protagonist is now curious and goes Deeper.
@Kitsunegami4 жыл бұрын
this as the deeper sleep have 2 endings, the 'good' and the 'bad' 'good' - you leave the 'traveller' be and let them awake 'bad' - you possess the 'traveler' and become them leaving them to become a shadow person. good and bad are relative, as i judge them as how the ending is. in the end both endings are canon.

Another interpretation that I got was that maybe the protagonist has always been a shadow person from the start, it's just that they've been made to think that they are a human trapped in the dream realm (weather it would be natural instinct for those ideas to form in the shadow person's mind, or through an outside force planting that idea in them) and thus when they possess a traveler at the end, they're an "empty soul" who's come into this plane of existence. That leaves the point about the other traveler who talks to you halfway through, but I suppose that could be explained as it being on of the other shadow people and mimicking a traveler to keep the facade up.

And in fact, it turns out that the protagonist of part 1 will always go back to sleeping ( maybe even not wake up) in part 2, until the shadow of part 3 decides to absorb it. So the cycle cannot be completely interrupted, just delayed. However, this game can be viewed from several angles, which is why it is good.
