After the USSR launched Sputnik in 1957, the US basically funded scientific development a hell of a lot more. Overtime they grew worried that the USSR might damage their telephone communication, so they needed an alternative for long-distance communication. They managed to develop a network where computers could talk to each other via a network where data is broken down, transmitted via unique paths and resurfaced to a different computer. Over 30 years the internet we know now became more sophisticated.

I was under the impression that the onion browser itself had some sort of major problem. (like it sent out telemetry data to somebody, or something like that) Iv'e seen other KZbin videos in the past explaining that you should avoid using it. (not because its terribly slow)

Dan there's this thing about trackers being able to identify session users because the Tor browser is full screened, causing more variation in window size that can be used to track packets and such. Everyone having the same window size frustrates attempts to track and analyze Tor users slightly because trackers can't cross-check packets using that with time to estimate where it came from. Does the window size count as telemetry data you mentioned? Certainly not a reason to not use Tor altogether, but there's lots of arcane things like that to watch out for if you want to use Tor to remain anonymous. Like any service it's got its flaws and the user has to be smart about using it properly for it to be benefiical
