Hell, we have an Earth size planet right next to us in the goldielocks zone. No water. "Earth-sized" is over rated. The size and temperature of the star also matters, so do close outer Jupiter like planets when it comes to vacuuming space debris. So many variables. Sadly, due to time and distance, we will never know if life, let alone intelligent life, or an intelligent life that is/was able to reach out to the stars in one way or another from an exoplanet ever existed or exists now will never be known. However, like bigfoot, alien visitors, and life after death, it is fun to think about.
