The Khopesh, or sickle-shaped sword of the Pharaohs, has a long and interesting history dating back over 4 millennia. It was first used against Egypt by the Hyksos from Assyria before being adopted as a weapon by the Egyptians themselves - with many examples found in royal tombs including that of King Tut.
Extremely curved, most often single-edged but also double, the weapon was most often carried by the infantry and used as a chopping and hacking weapon.

as someone told me, the kopesh , per se, is more of a full tang axe than a sword, so more for hacking, grabbing. it a powerful cutter.

The khopesh originated in Canaan; the Egyptians copied the weapon from them. Therefore, it’s not a native Egyptian blade.

I'm thinking it was easier to say "African" than it was to say "Sub Saharan African". You are right, Egypt is on the African continent so would technically be African, but from a linguistic use most people say "Africa" when they mean "Sub Saharan Africa". Being on the same continent there is a high likelyhood that the two cultures would be able to share ideas, anything from blade styles to simple things like putting a back on a stool to make a chair, travelling there and back can't be that hard, especially if you've figured out boats to skip the whole desert thing.

Khopesh this is hybrid of sickle and axe. Metal was too expensive in ancient time for make separately tools and weapons. Also rulers of all times try to forbide people have weapons. But they can not forbided to people have tools for labor. So people start make that tools with double meaning. Khopesh is direct and best prove of this. Peasunt can use one side of khopesh like a sickle for harvest grains and another side like a axe for chop of trees. But if will come time they can use khopesh like very dengerous weapon. This weapon can break gates, shields, chop heads and bones, and you can use it like a curve sword for direct strikes.
