Great episode and great idea for a book. I, too, have felt the insincerity of those surface questions and have appreciated those who REALLY want to connect. It is something I'm working on myself, to allow the Spirit to grow my heart to invest and truly care for those around me, wanting to connect deeply with them. So much is distracting us from true connection. May we become better communicators for Christ!

This episode was good for my heart. I lost 3 loved ones in very recent years, and I'm sick and tired of people asking me "how are you?" It incites anger and dread every time someone asks that question. And the worst part is when you actually tell them how you are feeling and then they feel uncomfortable or change the subject. I had to ask someone to please stop repeatedly asking me that question because they think I'm going to magically "feel better" the next time they ask me again

I so agree. My husband left me for 6 weeks. I got so tired of people asking me that question.

I had to drop a friend over her asking me if my daughter wants to see me ( my daughter cut me off via text on her birthday 5 years ago) When I answered her and said No, my friend would every time make a noise like she was calling her horse or some farm animal. I’m not joking.

I got that question a lot after my husband passed unexpectedly. I learned to say: "That is a very complicated question that I don't even ask myself." It got the message across!

Proverbs 12:26 says, “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.” When choosing a friend, especially a best friend, we should make sure he or she is a growing Christian.

Interact with people but choose your friends carefully. That's Biblical. Your friends somehow influence you. Choose a growing christian not a stagnant nominal christian

"Seeing the best about someone", isn't always wise. See people for what they show you. Always protect your heart. Be shrewd, is what Jesus taught us. Be shrewd.

Maybe we can do both: see the best in people while being aware of their worst. For workers, if the positive outweighs the negative, then depending on the position, keep them. For friends, the same applies. For family, that is not an option. So healthy boundaries applies

Whatever people show you about themselves… BELIEVE them. That is the truth of who they are and you should trust them to be just that. Radical acceptance is committed to reality, not believing“the best” or the worse we romanticize them to be…respectfully❤

The Four Mindsets for a Warm Connection 1. Be curious 2) Believe the best 3) Express concern (co-carry the burden) and 4) share my life. Listen for that person's core values while they are talking and you are listening. The goal is not to win an argument, it's to make a connection or to build up the other person. This is Christology? If you win the argument, then you lost the connection, especially if it's with your spouse.

I’ve enjoyed your programming for quite sometime. Lately, I’ve heard one too many references to your political views, particularly making fun of an opposing party. This closes God’s message to people with whom you disagree. Let’s give to Caesar what is Caesar, and to God what is God’s. Keep it separate. Goodbye for now.
