I have been to Rinku Town twice and left with happy memories ! Metropolitan planning is an art and also a science that it is difficult to predict everything precisely. When Osaka ‘s IR is ready, I believe kansai will become more vivid and Rinku would be benefited as a result. Besides, thanks to the well developed infrastructure network built during the bubble era, like highway and Shinkansen, all improved the accessibility of different cities of japan including those remote one like Niigata so that we could easily travel around Japan! Everything happened for reasons !

我有幸住過摩天酒店,內部裝修殘舊,臨空成outlet購物真的不錯,臨空成改為超大型商場其實也不錯。

Very informative and well prepared! Thank you for sharing
I've stayed in the newly built Japan Foundation facility in Rinku Town for 2 weeks back in 1997. There was nothing much in there. I only remember seeing Rinku Papara and there were a few restaurants and a bookstore at the train station and that was it. After watching your video, I want to revisit Rinku Town again after 25 years. Thank you for making this vid.

Like Rinku town in recent yrs, the financial situation of KIX(Kansai airport) has also vastly improved...at least upto the time before Covid19 hit. This is mainly because: 1) Traffic level there finally growing as originally projected...even accelerating since about 10yrs ago. Low utilization/not enough traffic was the main problem for the 1st two decades after opening in 1994. 2) Local government merged the profitable ITM(Osaka Itami airport) with the high debt KIX as 1 single corporation to manage. Instead of competing against each other, the 2 airports now compliment each other maximizing each others relative strengths/advantages.

@@deepestjapan T2 was planned+designed to be very very basic(e.g. only linked by bus to T1), practical(almost no decorations) and not fancy(e.g. u will find ZERO elevator or escalator @ T2) from day1 - the exact opposite approach of T1 @ KIX. KIX owners /operators today have clearly learnt their painful financial lessons.
Very well researched and presented. The long road to recovery since the burst of the bubble economy deserved a much better understanding by the rest of the world. The ambition set by Osaka had cost a great deal financially. And the sinking of KIX runway is an ongoing reminder of that era.
Not only Rinku town. The airport itself has been in deep financial trouble/suffering losses for decades since completion in 94 again mainly due to astronomical construction cost matching unrealistic income projection just like Rinku town. I still vividly remember KIX(Kansai airport) made world headlines when it decided to charge higher landing fees than NRT(Narita). The local government really didn't have a choice to pay for the land to build KIX. It was either buy private lands at the crazy price level of the 1980s Japan or 'create' new land in the sea using extremely expensive advanced construction tech. Don't get me wrong, i still highly admire the architectural design of the main terminal(not T2) @ KIX - still the most beautiful airport terminal in Japan today in my personal opinion.

泡沫經濟中啲人失去理性,機場係必須,但實在太貴。 而家一號大樓裝修緊,下次去可能又會再靚啲

@@deepestjapan next time when u visit the checkin hall of T1 @ KIX, take a good look of the ceiling there. Those huge long white panels looking like airfoils hanging above are not just pretty decorations like other modern airport terminals(e.g. HKG, most new terminals in China, etc.) - they are all functional and specifically designed to guide airflow smoothly to be circulated around the whole building from the aircon units located on the floor of the checkin level....a much much more elegant design solution than typical aircon ducts. An interesting but a little known fact of KIX T1 for most visitors: It was designed by a world famous Italian architect, not Japanese. His idea & theme for KIX T1 - recalling the grand old classic railway terminal from a century ago. Thats why after passengers walked past the security area in the middle section of the terminal and look at either side of the departure concourse north or south, they will see an unusually long and tall interior space lined by intricate metal frames/structures across the whole ceiling.
