Scammers are using an AI-generated “deepfake” video of trusted consumer champion Martin Lewis to convince victims to part with their money. Lewis has branded the new scam “frightening” and warned lives would be ruined unless internet giants were stopped from publishing such content from fraudsters. Deepfakes are realistic AI-generated videos of people that show them saying or doing things they have not done. Lewis, founder of consumer advice website MoneySavingExpert, highlighted the new scam on Twitter on Thursday evening.
