I am hungarian, living in Serbia. This singer called Marta Sebestyen(Sebestyén Márta).Kossuth and Liszt Ferenc award earned singer. She sings very popular folk songs. She sings the old story about young girl who realized that she is pregnant, and asking God sadly what is happening with her body. Beautiful song.

OH MY GOD. I've searched for this song for like.. an eternity! My mom used to play this when I was a kid and I couldn't figure out how to find it. Searching for "Arararararara aira rararara rarara" or "popular 90's song with indian chant" only came up with Enigma and ERA. So happy I found it after all these years. :D

I'm from Australia and I was just obsessed with Deep Forest in my teens. I had their first three albums in the late 90s. By far their best jewel was Boheme, I could never get enough of it. And that was decades before I realized the music and singers were from my Fatherland, central and Eastern Europe: Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, the Balkans... Now I understand the power of my cultural heritage. I'm going to have to search for Marta Sebestyen!

Márta is a huge talent...a national treasure. Long time ago hungarian Womens with good voices used to sing like this. I heard them many times originally. On one occasion, I was lucky enough to talk with Márta for 15-20 minutes, and our place of origin is also close within Hungary...VAS county... She is also a great woman as a person!

Marta is famous way beyond East Europe, and for good reasons: not only can she sing, she can do so in FORTY languages. That's why she's also used for movies, among them Anthony Minghella's The English Patient. I'm from Denmark btw. (almost the exact opposite side of the planet as you), but my parents were German/Hungarian Romas, and I have visited Hungary many times and also lived in Serbia and Bulgaria -- here you go, as you might be interested in hearing a Balkan improvisation by an old acquaintance of mine, the now regrettable dead genius Peter Bastian, prof. of theoretical physics, author and bassoonist: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5K9dWCijtmCfsU

I could've been the first person (definitely one of the first) to buy this CD when it came out in the early 1990s. I used to play it on a large sound system, with 200 Amp speakers, almost all day long. Listening to it, over and over, used to make the hair on my back stand, every time I played the album. What a memory they have left for me. I miss those days. Thank you Deep Forest.

This is a weird story, so am south Asian, I never knew anything about Hungary , apart from it’s a country in Europe and had large stamps when I use to collect in my school days . One of my Early CD’s I bought was Deep Forrest .Late 90’s I fell in love with few songs which I didn’t know the language, This and few other Hungarian songs. Fast forward 10 years I moved to UK , I met my soulmate/Wife , She’s Hungarian. she pointed out my favourites were actually Hungarian. I still don’t understand how this happened. I loved something which I was to in future . Some times when I listen to this song it brings tears to my eyes . I Don’t know why . Fate ?

It's called MINYOU in Japanese. the way of singing is so original and makes me feel so relaxed. My grandma used to sing like this, without music. Music is the only one thing to make people feel we are all the same. NO matter where you live,It doesn't matter any religion. There's noone who doesn't feel anything from music.

Thank you very much for all the information about this beautiful and sensitive song. I would like to find and listen the original version of this hungarian ancient song.

@@TonyPearl Actually all of the 20th century was good for music. The genres we listen to nowadays developed in that time. It had many memorable decades like the 60's, 70's and 80's, but one thing is sure: the nineties were the last great decade for music, where everything really innovative was already done, but it simply blended into many styles, and then Y2K happened.
