DCS F/A-18C Tutorial 17 - AZ/EL Display

Hi! Love the videos you make on the F-18. Towards the end you tried to get the FLIR onto the friendly however you could not see it. This was because the aircraft was at about 50 nm from you and the FLIR will only render objects which are within 44 nm (or there about). I experience this a lot when designating a waypoint as a target which is too far. It’s funny because as you get close, the veil gets slowly lifted around the target area as you hit that magic range.

That was really enlightening. All this time I thougt the AZ/EL was one step above being absolutely USELESS. I definitely stand corrected!

7:25 The command for a manual interrogation is SCS depress then SCS right within 1 second. The previous way was incorrect 10:10 You can access the AZ/EL FLIR subformat at anytime by pressing SCS to the AZ/EL display (left) however the TDC must be outside of the Tactical Area. (green box that separates tac data from push button options. I would suggest you add a comment or something mentioning the applicable HOTAS commands and shortcuts. Just because here you clicked every PB when most can be done via the SCS and TDC, we want people to know that there's a faster way to do things.

Thanks for the corrections, your knowledge on this aircraft is super valuable. I'll look at adding annotations at first and then will plan to revise this video soon like I did with the radar one.

can you tell me all the shortcuts of what could've been done with the hotas?

One correction though: The IFF 140 button cycles the IFF interrogation azimuth coverage, not the range.
