Mmmhh thats debatable. Although their first albums were def hard rock. Into the 80's their music was more and more heavy. Listen to "stormbringer" , "perfect strangers" , "under the gun" compare it to other bands of the time that were considered metal. Judas priest " you got another thing coming" i.e. and you'll realize what I mean. Def has metal repertoire. They just didi'nt stick to that style so to speak.

I grew up listening to Deep Purple. This song and Perfect Strangers are two of my favorite songs. Jon Lord was a master on the keyboard. My Dad says one of the best concerts he ever seen was at The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. It was in 1985 during the Perfect Strangers Tour. The entire stage was smoked out and the lazer light show was amazing. Richie Blackmore is seen walking in and kicks a soccer ball out into the crowd. Everyone went wild. They opened with Highway Star. I wish I would have grown up back in those days. Everyone went to concerts and they were dirt cheap. They'd hitchhike sometime from Northern Michigan all the way to Detroit or Pontiac. They didn't give a shit back in those days. They'd do anything to make it to a concert!!

I saw this tour in Worcester, MA. Think it was late 84. I was only 15 and I had a ticket for my best friend Scott, but at the last minute he said he couldn't go, so I went by myself. My dad drove me to the arena and picked me up after. I went to probably 50 or 60 concerts in high school and my parents never gave me a hard time about it, although I'm sure they worried once I started driving myself to the shows. But nothing bad ever happened and I always had a great time while losing my hearing lol. I love you Mom and Dad and you too Scott, where ever you are!

The 70's was a great time to live plus listening to Deep Purple. Rock On ✌

This song is from 1984, after they got back together and tried their hand at basically becoming an 80s arena metal band. They hit the nail right on the head!

Ritchie Blackmore displays all his classic lickery in that solo. He just kills it. 3:40.

I went camping in the Rockies and was jamming out to this song, was pretty high and decided to burn up my clothes in protest against something I can’t even remember. Anyway, made it off the mountain the next day in just my hiking boots. I will never take acid and listen to Deep Purple again.

When this came out in the mid 80's, the current hair bands had to be put on notice that the hard and heavy rock gods were back!!! They had be shown once again who this legendary band was. I remember some of my buddies all remarking...holy cow what a way to come back!

I was a child back then and I had some older friends who spread the news of their return. And when I listened I said: Holly cow! They are better musicians than anyone else!

Ian Gillan was prodigal, no doubt! Blackmore was an overated tool; you would think a guy with his mediocre talent would be more humble.

Amazing to think back then, it seemed like an eternity since that "original" Purple line up had been together, and this album was a big thing. And .. errr .. it's now 40 years later! I really liked this album actually, was graet.

One of the MOST UNDERRATED bands in rock history. Such an amazing sound.
@Bernie0481USMC2 жыл бұрын
@Vince Feeney not at all. In fact, thousands believe the same. You must be young. Deep Purple was never a popular radio band nor talked about big band like Maiden, Black Sabbath etc. You do know what underrated means, yes?
@Bernie0481USMC2 жыл бұрын
@Vince Feeney what insult. I'm 51 and DP is and has always been underrated. You are literally the 1st person to argue this. They received little airplay and still do on classic radio. Always their Top hits. No Hall of Fame. No major stuff at all. DP is an album and live band only. And a band that most folks dont even mention. In over 30 years you're the first to say different. That's your belief.
