Ever since we opened to China Trade, we knew they could produce anything cheaper, even high end products. We knew and capitalized on it so that our manufacturing industry move abroad to China to maximize its profits. Meanwhile only the low quality items reflected that reality at home. However, the high quality imported items kept their current price and even became more expensive as made in USA products faded away. Since the , China's efficient economy of scale, only profited the oligarchs until the US labor market plummeted and China became a political scapegoat. Meanwhile, it kept our stock market strong even throughout the Anti-Chinese campaign. Now we're at a crossroad where it seems unacceptable to allow China to keep rising despite of our sanctions. Now, under the guise of tariffs, it's our government turn to make huge profits by taxing imported products that could make life cheaper during inflationary times. Our government does not want us to access cheap EV, cheap solar system, cheap infrastructure, cheap AI...etc. China rise only benefits the rich and famous who have no incentives to re-shore our industries here, for it's too expensive and unproductive. Industrials know that with BRICS+ China can bypass our market. We cannot overnight, it takes time to build our supply chain from scratch and they all know it. They would be fools to leave China ecosystem for ours. Even with tariffs to protect them, our industries will keep fleeing abroad. Ask yourself why our defense has been and is still dependent on Chinese manufacturing. I doubt that with protectionism it will be able to modernize on its own, mostly when shunning our allies. America has a way out though. They all say, if you cannot fight your enemy, you join him and make the best of your new reality. America will never be great again because its greatness was born from the misery of others. Others have managed to survive and grow their economy and seek more beneficial partnerships ignoring our giggling around crying over our past glories.

@AIPretendingToBeHuman2 сағат бұрын
America is a capitalist society. According to Peter Thiel the goal of any capitalist should be to strive for monopoly. This makes sense because if you're a monopoly, you can charge $100 or whatever you want for a product that costs $0.01. Before Deep Seek, US companies had a practical monopoly on Gen AI so that they could charge whatever they wanted for it because it was the "new oil". Using that analogy, someone in China discovered how to make oil from air at $0 cost -- and then gave it away.

The West's strategy is now to "continue doing whatever bad decisions they are doing as the cost of failure is too high". It reminds me of 2010 financial crisis when the sub-prime markets caused a huge meltdown. Everyone knew it was greed that caused these big financial bubbles and only the rich wall street fellas benefitted even at the end (they short the markets). Nobody learn their lessons and continued with massive financial support for these big tech companies. The market is so overheated and companies are so overvalued that another crash is inevitable. Although they can continue to live in their "dreams" by restricting chinese products, it will come a day when they realised that their competition has surpassed them far far ahead and they are like some third world countries. You need to know that the Chinese are very rational people and do things with common sense, instead of doing it for votes or agendas.

The moment I learned about DeepSeek's R1 AI model, I knew that it would be banned by the US/collective West. This is sadly just the world that we know live within: all things Chinese that challenge the US hegemony must be shunned and banned out of a combination of pique, consternation, anxiety and inability/lack of desire to respond in a constructive manner.
@OnyxStudiosInteractive2 сағат бұрын
Well you can't ban open source. These models can be run on your laptop as well as private cloud GPUs. It's not like TikTok where they can ban a central server...AI is very decentralized and pretty soon you will be able to run these models on your phone. The genie is out of the bottle!

Thanks, you're the only one that clearly explained what the Americans are going to do about their AI project StarGate since the revelation of DeepSeek. Everyone assumed they would scale down the cost of their development projects.

Just to be clear, when you read "security concerns" as the reason cited for banning anything know the concerns are about financial security of oligarchs.

US politicians: We're losing, let's ban DeepSeek immediately Experts: We can't, it's open source US politicians: What do you mean? we can ban anything Experts: That's like banning oxygen US politicians: Ban it anyway! Experts: Sure, hold your breath until the problem goes away

Like the channel and info. I think when work "can't" isn't always true. We do get ripped off a lot. We have fat lazy companies and that's why we are going to get creamed.

Huawei Chips are still not allowed in the US. Now that everyone and their moms can download Deepseek's model and build on it, wouldn't consumer grade Nvidia graphic cards be in demand again? Like during the early days of the Crypto boom. Universities will also be able to buy the top end ships for research too. I'm still betting on the shovel seller.

Deepseek has given a great gift to the world. Censorship and bans of deepseek won't solve the problems of the American tech oligarchs. You can't beat open source with proprietary approaches to tech.

CHANGE in the game! A Canadian company released a free AI (maybe AI2 ?). Outperforming everyone with 450B .. you know what. And it's not only free, but they opened all little details from the start. More than deepseek. What's now? Remember, after WW2, they started building military jets, the US didn't even dreamed of. The CIA (no joke), walked over and closed the factory.
