Shadowcast wasnt forgotten. It was invented post the Great Drowning. Ironsing was forgotten after the Great Drowning.

As far as I know the drowning had no effect on the general populace's knowledge of Shadowcast, though I may be wrong. From what we know Shadowcast was created sometime after the Canticlysm, and has remained secretive and taboo for as long as it's been around.

well between flame within, immolation, and emperor flame it seems like a flamecharmer can become immune to their own flame

It's situational I think. Hell, with phoenix flames they can even heal from their own fire. So, I imagine with an abhorrent amount of practice they could get used to the temperatures required to forge metal.

Shadowcast is not publicly documented information, if explored at all. After all, usage of such magic is extremely taboo, and leads one to be persecuted with extreme prejudice. Ironsing however has only recently resurfaced as a commonplace attunement, and as such this document from Markor has become outdated.
