I know a bit abotu deepwoken lore but i don't udnerstand any of it, especially the depths, so i wanna ask some questions how do drowned gods do what they do while being "asleep"? how are the layers ordered? if layers aren't supposed to be stacked, then how do we go "deeper" when we "die" in the depths? it's obvious that layer 1 and 2 are connected, since the ignition union literally fucking drilled into the second layer, and that the surface and layer 1 are probably connected, because of whirlpools and shit, does this mean that layer 1 and 2 are just one big layer? and also is layer 1 supposed to be all of celtor? like was there a "layer 1" before celtor? how does the depths work? what is it? i dont understand.

drowned gods do what they do because they "steer" in their sleep if you will layers are ordered by the count which got drowned first I suppose, and yes there was layer 1 before celtor (I suppose we could count the eterna gale as the layer 1 of pre-canticlysm) no, gale and celtor are two different layers just because they're so different from one another

Drowned gods are simply strong enough to be conscious while asleep. Almost like a sleep paralysis. The depths are not ordered: but humans order them based on discoveries. Layer 1 was discovered first, then second, then third, while these layers aren’t actually ordered outside human standards. Layers are domains of powerful beings, simply pocket dimensions. They are just HUGE when it comes to drowned gods, as they shape layers to their liking. Not every layer has a drowned god though: the first layer is empty of gods, it takes shape of the sea because it’s the closest layer to the surface and the ocean above.

I think the Ministry's motivations could just be a twisted way of exercising mercy for the inhabitants of the overworld. They've already seen the fall of all other known civilization thanks to the depths (which includes a civilization literally turning their realm into an eternal torment), and they could just be using their extended knowledge of the depths to speed up the inevitable in a controlled way, perhaps as a part of some sort of Messiah complex by the prophets, or purely out of moral obligation. This could also explain how they are able to rally so many for their cause - their ideology represents complete nihilism, and thus, those in their darkest times would be quick to take up their goals.
