Gosh! I don’t hunt, nor do I need a deer blind, but I sure did enjoy listening to this.❤️

Hey Paul, glad to hear that the windows are working for you. I appreciate the kind words!

Brett, I have built 3 of your blinds. I change some things around but very minimal, your designs are perfect, For my inswing doors I put the same door seal you use for the windows on backwards, so the wavy part is out and the rubber covers the gap, It has a natural cup in to seal against the door. Try that once and see if it works for you.

Thanks Bryne. I'm not sure what you mean though. Is the weatherstrip attached to the door or the frame, on the inside or the outside as you described?

@@UncleBucks Sorry Brett it has been awhile. I attach the hard part to the stand with the wood grain facing in to the sides of the stand and the ribs facing out. The flexible part covers the gap and lands on the door. Make sure to overlap the top over the sides.

Outward swing is safest. This is especially true for smokers and those up us with heaters. In the event of a fire, a trap and inward swinging door can trap people while an outward will open.

Makes sense in a situation of fire. They all have their pros and cons...

Brett. I like out swinging doors. But after building a few blinds/stands,I think the biggest improvement on all of them is making the door bigger. If you’re stand is five or six feet wide make the door minimum of 48”. As well, make it like a French door. It only takes 3 more hinges. I find when I’m building it, seeing how things work,I’m not carrying anything on my back. When I’m hunting in it I’m always trying to get into the stand with a pac, or a gun on my shoulder,or a bow on my back and that’s when you say “Mmmm I didn’t make this door big enough “😬. Some for one to consider when building a stand. Thanks for sharing

Thanks Lou. I've never had regrets over making a door too big! A french style door is something I hadn't considered. Appreciate the idea.

Nice video. I have an outward swinging door on mine, BUT it is hinged at the top. You climb in with the door resting on your back. I even have a shooting window in mine. Once inside you hook the door closed with eye hooks on both sides. Inward swing takes up too much floor space for both entry and exit, especially if you have multiple hunters in your blind.

That's an interesting option. Wind won't mess with it either. Thanks for sharing and watching!

@@UncleBucks YW. I also rigged by door to open with a rope and pulley system so I can carry more stuff up and down.

Great info! Seems like the trap door style is what I am leaning to.

What about a sliding door? Barn door style.

Interesting idea! If it could be operated quietly...

Just. FYI. If you paint wood you make it slippery. Maybe better to use a thin strip of reflector tape??I wouldn’t paint stairs or ladder runs. Unless you tack grip or “grit” strips over the paint. Be safe out there.

Thanks. A shot of white spray paint on the top of the wooden 2x4 step didn't affect the rough texture a whole lot. and when it's under the box blind with a trap door, the ladder doesn't get rained or snowed on, which also helps a lot from slipping off.

A sprinkle of sand on wet paint works wonders for traction. Lasts about 2-3 years.

Thanks. The whole winter sucks here in my opinion! We can go ice fishing though if there's not too much snow and it is nice to not have to deal with 90+ degree heat too often in the summers.
