I have a 5 sided plastic shack from menards. The windows are hinged at the bottom. If they are frosty on the outside i just open the window so its completely inside the shack and wait for it to thaw. Then wipe with microfiber towel. I use a big buddy heater.

@UncleBucks14 күн бұрын
@emeraldfox7175 I don't really care for tint. Personal preference. There's some glare going on already. The movement caused by opening a window is the mild concern.

If you urinate below your blind especially during rut, you will have a scape by your blind. Deer are territorial. I'm sure you know that. Nice blind by the way!

Nice upgrade, Brett. I plan to get a little camper one day but not for a few years. Hey, I did finally get a box blind built that I've been wanting. I went with the 6'x8'. It still needs a few touches, but we still managed to get our first hunt in this weekend. My boy shot his first deer Saturday during the Youth Hunt. He got to feel a little "Buck Fever", and now he's hooked. :)

Thanks! That's great to hear! Congratulations to you and your boy on his first deer! My son is ready to give deer hunting a try this year, and I'm really excited for our rifle season. He got his first turkey this spring and it was epic! It took him a while to want to give hunting a try though. He's a senior in HS. It's been a long wait for me. I've always been hopeful, but never pushy.
@outdoorztime292320 күн бұрын
@@UncleBucks You did the right thing giving him time to decide. Isaac is twelve, and I was starting to wonder if he'd ever care about hunting that much. I told him harvesting your own game brings you a whole new level of becoming independent. I mean everything you eat just shouldn't come from the grocery store. Great hunting to you and your son this rifle season!

At 67 years old I will be using a ground blind for the first time in my life this season. Cold and wind is not fun anymore. I'll walk or use the tree stand on nice days. 4x4 works for me. Easier to keep warm. LOL
@McseverythingoutdoorsАй бұрын
Built a ton of these. You don’t need all that insulation if you have a small heater it will blast you out. All the insulation will be in little pieces in time. Always paint the interior black and wear black. Your blind is too low always go 12-15 foot minimum.
@UncleBucksАй бұрын
@Mcseverythingoutdoors It's not mine. I didn't build it and I don't hunt from it. I just did a video tour of it. That said, this is my brother's blind and he has taken several nice bucks from it, just the way it is (archery and rifle) and he hasn't changed anything about it in 5 years, so it's working for him.

I used 2-2x4's for the middle cross members. Used liquid nails and nailed them together, then used 2 tubes under the plywood and used 2-1/2" screws every 6". It's been 6 years and no squeaks. I also used treated plywood for exterior sheeting, The ends are separating(ply separation) so Treated isn't the answer either. As far as the windows go, I used buss windows.
@UncleBucksАй бұрын
@Whippingwillow2001 nice job on squeak reduction methods! Wow, treated plywood should not be doing that. Bad batch of it perhaps...? I tried bus windows on one blind but didn't care for them because I thought they were way too loud to operate.

I love it and I am in the process of building one as I type this. I built the platform for this blind almost 2 years ago and put a plastic archery blind on top and now I am finally building the walls and going to put the whole setup together. Question about the large window and dimensions, the plexiglass is cut to 29 1/2" by 18" if the rough opening of the window is 1/2" larger then the plexiglass? This is the only part Im stuck on. Thanks for putting this together for all of us!
@UncleBucks2 ай бұрын
You're welcome! Yes, the clear acrylic should be 1/2" shorter and 1/2" narrower thatn the rough opening. You want a 1/4" gap all the way around so it doesn't rub when you open and close it. If you watch my window build video it will make more sense why the gap works once the seal strip is put on.

I'm switching from pop-up ground blind to a raised platform blind. Question I have, Do I need to angle cut the 4x4's at thr ground. I will be using elevator brackets also
@UncleBucks2 ай бұрын
@PaulGoliath-v1f You really don't. The corners will settle in a bit, but it's not a problem. Make sure to put the factory treated ends of the 4x4s down and the cut ends up (if uou cut them), so that the treated end is in contact with the ground.

I just got mine a couple days ago, and so far I am well pleased. Just a couple thoughts, not sure if you mentioned it or not. Like any chainsaw, make sure the chain is running before you make contact with the wood. Second, while I realize everyone's needs are different, for me, I generally only have a few limbs at a time I cut. So instead of even using the oiler, I just have an old pump oil gun, like grandpa use to have (yes you can still get them) and just give the chain/bar a couple squirts of bar oil, every now and then. For me, least for now, it's much better than filling that oil tank and then having to deal with it when storing. Of course if I had a big trimming job, I would use the oil tank.

Lean your blade. All that buildup from previous cuts just causes rubbing and heat. A clean blade is sharper as well. Your technique is great. Slow and steady is the name of the game.
