I just got into fly tying but I have very big, ambitious ideas. One of these is an articulated deer hair topwater snake. This video will be tremendously helpful when I eventually attempt it. Thanks for the video!

Deer hair pooper are really great. The action of the fish is incredible. I have several different one's. Love it when I see the fish pop out the water to take that pattern

RF...There is no better time to be on the water when the bass are crashing top water flies. The top water take can be heart stopping. I probably have an additional six months before I get to experience that again. Tight lines!!!

So you don't have to have your thread at the base of the stack to put in another stack? Looks like you had it advanced about 1/4 inch before putting in a new stack
@shawnwest8926 жыл бұрын
The reason for advancing your thread is to give yourself room to attach the next clump of hair. I usually advance my thread about 6 - 8 wraps. Hope this helps.

What thread are you using? You seem to put a fair amount of tension on it I would usually snap the thread

Corey...I am using UTC GSP 100. You can use a higher strand count, but I do not think it is needed.

Heya mate, awesome video, thanks for sharing! Is it bucktail your using? Seems like it! The reason why I am asking is because of floating properties, cause this doesn't look like deer hair. Thanks in advance and tight lines!
@shawnwest8926 жыл бұрын
I am using whitetail deer belly hair. Bucktail does not work well for a bug body. I only use it for tailing material on my poppers. I try to purchase my belly hair from Natures Spirit. It is some of the best quality available. Another great source for quality deer hair is from Pat Cohem. His site is rusuperfly.com. Hope this helps. Cheers

what can in use instead of a deer hair stacker?
@shawnwest8922 жыл бұрын
Heath..In a pinch I have used my hands as a stacker. I prefer using the stacker shown in the video. That being said, the bass can care less if all the tips align properly. Do the best with what you have on hand. Good luck!!!
