I could talk for a long time about this. I’m in TN and in a CWD zone. We see no sick deer at all. I’m not even getting my deer tested. I’m eating all my deer and most of my friends do as well. For All of my life if we have ever suspected a deer of being sick or having a disease we just wouldn’t eat it. Nothing changes for me.

so how about this story where the deer seemed 100% fine but tested positive?
@Diffidentone
@Diffidentone Жыл бұрын
@@Bryan-vz4sz Think that is what they are saying, it is not an issue the people in his area think about. If it does not look sick then they will eat it. I do not believe there is one documented case where someone ate CWD positive meat and got sick or a disease from it. Now there is lymph nodes in the legs and spine area you do not want in with your meat when you process/eat it but that is the case for any deer sick or not. One good thing about Wisconsin here, if you do get your deer tested and it tests positive, you can get a replacement tag from the DNR that is good for the rest of that season and even the next years season if you do not fill it that year. So keep the meat or not you can be compensated for the positive test in the form of a new tag.

I believe the concern is, while CWD has not crossed from deer to people that it is potentially possible and all it would take is a small mutation. I believe this is something that has happened many times throughout history with other diseases.
@Duane14
@Duane14 Жыл бұрын
@@Bryan-vz4sz it takes 2 years from when a deer gets cwd, until symptoms start. that's why the vast majority of deer that have the cwd prion in their system, are physically 100% healthy. meat is also safe to eat during all phases of cwd infection, as it only affects the deers nervous system.

I knew three members of the same family who all came down with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease within a couple years of each other. They had a ranch in CO that was in a prime, well known CWD area. They hunted and ate elk from that ranch. First the father got it then his son in law and finally the father’s sister. They were well off and no money was spared in their medical treatment. Still they all went down hill and passed away shockingly fast. I went to high school with the son in law’s sister. While they never could prove it, she and other members of the family have always suspected CWD contaminated elk meat played a role in their deaths. Interestingly, her sister in law, the one married to her brother who died from CJ, did not like or eat elk meat. She is fine. I don’t know if it makes any difference but they were all full blooded Cherokee Indians. I only mention that because American Indians have very unique DNA and in Britain it was found people carrying certain genes succumb to BSE aka mad cow disease much more quickly. I’m no medical expert but CJ is very rare and it’s just strange to me how three people of all different ages in one family could die from it so closely together. The surviving family never got any explanation from the medical team that treated them for it either. After I seeing what happened to that family first hand, in an abundance of caution, I get my deer tested and I hunt in GA where CWD hasn’t been detected yet. I hunt mostly public land and there’s usually free CWD testing offered at the check in stations so it’s convenient to get it done.

Aaron, thanks for setting a great example regarding the CWD buck, including testing him, deboning for travel, and consulting with the wildlife agency. It's tough to accept the news that you have to discard the venison, but look at it this way: You removed a positive deer from that zone. You helped keep prevalence rates low in that area. As for eating the venison, we would not. There's no evidence CWD has affected a human, but it's better to minimize your risk, based on the science. Thanks for THP's leadership on this issue!

Glad you guys could pack it out easily. Might want to add a comment in these pack out videos to remind people to check their state regulations. Here in Wisconsin we could not do the full debone in the field as the carcass needs to be removed from the woods, only thing that can be left is the guts. Here is how it reads in the Wisconsin regulations. (Quartering Your Deer) Hunters may divide a deer into as many as five pieces to facilitate removal of the carcass from the field, but the head must remain attached to one of the five parts of the carcass. The hide and lower legs, if removed, do not count as one of the five parts. Only one deer that has been quartered may be stored or transported at a time prior to registration, but quartered deer can be transported with other intact deer. The lower legs up to the tarsus joint (ankle or hock) on the hind legs and up to the carpus joint (wrist or knee) on the front legs may also be removed. All parts of the deer, except the entrails, must be removed from the field. Deer must be kept intact while afield, except for field dressing, skinning and quartering.

I live and hunt in a CWD zone in Arkansas. CWD has been around a lot longer than they’ve told us! We have eaten a bunch of deer meat and NONE of it has ever been tested! Always cook your deer meat well. Worry if you want. Always thank God for your food and I believe he will always take care of you! (He supplied every last deer you’ve ever harvested!) I wouldn’t eat a deer that looked sickly, (that would be stupid) but like I said, I’ve never had any tested! Of course I refuse to take the jab too! God supplied us with an immune system. I trust God, not the lying government with my life! I love watching y’all’s videos! Have watched the first four seasons twice! I’m almost 65. When I grow up, I want to be able to hunt like you professionals! I cannot watch those tall fence hunting shows any more! Solo Hunter was my favorite hunting show before THP. I did use to watch Red Arrow. That guy is pretty cool. But I really love watching all of you guys hunting! You’re like family! I just hope you know Jesus! Thanks!

Not sure if yal edited the video that made it look this way, but he stayed calm, got down fast, and took care of business. Good job. I've had it happen before and it's not fun, especially when your follow up shot doesn't do the job either...

I would mark all the meat packages. And separate them and hold them until more research comes to light. Some say freezing and cooking it to the right temperature takes care of most issues. But on severe cases (where visibly detectable) that’s where they throw out.

I've been waiting YEARS for you guys to hunt the big woods farther south. The majority of public land in the state is that big-woods, nasty terrain, maybe with a hayfield thrown in here and there. Fairly certain I know which part of which public you are hunting, but I don't think I'll hotspot it here. Any deer from those big woods is an accomplishment, since it feels like they could be literally anywhere on the landscape. Would love to see more videos focusing on this, since that is pretty much what the majority of public land in MO & AR is like (if not nastier hills).

Dinner stick! 🤣🤣🤣 Nice job Keith, hunting isn’t always pretty, but being ethical is a choice we all make. You did the right thing in my book.

Kinda tired of hearing about ethics. It's kinda like talking about ethics in war. Like, it's life and death, and we're making rules about what bullets are more ethical. Same as hunting ethical arguments. Bait is unethical to many people. It's like, shut up and just hunt. It's hunting. Eat what you kill, and it's ethical. Period.
@triplea6669
@triplea6669 Жыл бұрын
I agree on hunt how you want, I don’t care how. Do what makes you happy. However some people wouldn’t have climbed down that tree to face death at ground level and finish the job quickly. That would be unethical in my opinion. Doesn’t matter if you killed it over corn, in a tree or from the ground. The difference between hunting ethics and war ethics is that the deer aren’t the enemy, they are just creatures to eat. Like it or not ethics are important. They are what separates us from everything else that is wild and an integral part of what makes us human. Though you might be tired of the word ‘ethics,’ I truly don’t care, because your opinion doesn’t influence my opinion and I don’t expect mine to influence yours. Enjoy that backstrap and get it how you legally want too, just make sure to end the deers’ life as quickly as you can. That is really the only baseline definition of hunting ethics that I use.

@@triplea6669 yeah, I understand war and hunting aren't perfect parallels. It was an analogy. Thought that was rather obvious. Either way, you completely missed my point. Carry on.
@triplea6669
@triplea6669 Жыл бұрын
It wasn’t a very good analogy because they aren’t similar in anyway other than the use of weapons to take a life. I get your point, I just don’t agree with it fully or rather your context. That is okay though.

I watched a video once and a employee from missouri conservation said deer with CWD was safe to for human consumption. I also watched a missouri conservation employee on Dury outdoors say not to eat it. So who knows I'd eat it lol

Pulling the bow up and checking for all potential shots to see if there's branch interference is definitely a key takeaway. I think we're all guilty of that once. My shot was a complete miss.... arrow never recovered. ugh. Really good video, like the new vocab words pop ups too.

It sucks, but since you had it tested, and now know the results, I would not eat it. It would be hard for me to enjoy eating, and sharing it with family and friends. As a group, you guys will have plenty more opportunities to fill the freezer.

I see all these comments of love for Nick. I love Nick too. Don't phase out Ted and Zach and Warb too. Nick is a people person, and a good hunter, so the camera ends up in his face. Give credit where credit is due. Credit is due to Nick AND Zach AND Ted AND Warb AND Jake. They've all done well. If Nick was running his own self centered channel I'd subscribe to that too, but don't leave the O.G.'s out that made the name that Nick wanted to be a part of. Love to the ENTIRE T.H.P. crew.
