Also, friendly reminder of the light a campfire by your kill and combining harvesting and cooking trick. Especially useful if you have wolves nearby as the fire keeps them at bay and from ambushing you right out of the harvesting timelapse and the cooked meat is less stinky then it's raw counterpart, so less chance to pull in more wolves then you can handle.

Another thing I've been meaning to say regarding water. I always used to disregard the water purifiers but they are great! Imagine how much more water you can get done if you only have to melt water to non potable (essentially double the amount of water per burn). Each water purification tab purifies 1L water (2x small cans. Not sure what that is in ounces)

Nice episode! Dont forget to pick up your rifle casings after you fire, in order to maybe make some more ammo later on. Also, a trick i learned a few days ago is to harvest the meat at the smallest amount each time. When you cook it, it gives you huge amounts of cooking exp. For example, I harvested the deer corpse at trapper's homestead and got to cooking 3 with it :)

You can repair the gun/tools at the cannery in Bleak Inlet! Once you get the code and open the door the machine runs during an aurora. Downside is Timberwolves around the cannery.. But if you bust up all the random crates they have 2-6 cans of tuna inside generally. There's a trailer to sleep in outside as well. You could do the run to get up on top of the trailers and clear out the wolves to make it a bit easier on yourself.

thats a feature i miss in this game: a "global" inventory so storage attached to some kinds of usable environment like a workbench or an oven. for example the drawer of the workbench filled with 2 cured deer hides, 4 cured guts and a sewing kit should in theory be enough to work on the boots and not having to worry about carrying all that stuff all the time. or the drawers near the oven downstairs. one filled with matches and accelerators, one filled with tinder and useless books, one filled with sticks and wood and the last one filled with a can opener and some sort of canned food so you just need to choose what you use to start the fire and then just use what you are going to cook for dinner. of course its not a necessary feature but its a quality of live feature and such things would make the game more attractive to casual players and just a little bit more comfortable in my opinion at least.

Sir, you forgot to grab the rifle shells after you shot the deer. They drop when you bolt your weapon, they are really close to camp office look for them as they will make more bullets in the long run. Also if you want to read and do stuff outside without having to worry about warmth just build a snow shelter. It takes 5 cloth 15 sticks and boom you have a safe spot outside to sleep or read, helping you avoid cabin fever. I love the series and I will comment with helpful tips on each video from this series. Good luck with your police work and family and the game!

Hey there! Brand new viewer here. My guess about why your channel is blowing upright now is that it's a combination of your viewers being awesome and liking and sharing it, and the recent launch of TLD on Switch, which I think gave the game a pretty good bump in awareness and brought a slough of new players into the game. I've been playing for more than 3 years and my wife has been playing longer. You've taught me new strategies and ideas in just the first couple videos. Thank you! If I had a suggestion, the small bits where you mention why you are doing something specifically are the most helpful. These are usually related to a particular function of the game that I didn't know about. Reviewing some of those, maybe in a single video or a first-in-a-series video going over basic strategies and particular key resources for surviving as well as how you think about the long game and how far ahead you're thinking at any given time? That would be super interesting to me. Anyway. Thanks for making such awesome content, I really enjoy your videos, and I hope you can keep making them and make a living from doing so eventually. Be well!

I find that I can make the meat last longer by keeping them outside in the quarters when I don't need immediate food. The condition seems to stay for longer plus once cooked the condition returns. Maybe leave them quartered 'till conditions a minimum 80% then cook. Can draw out a kill for much longer. Reckon these survivors would be trying to smoke meats, too. Hinterland should add a smoker recipie crated with metal scraps and you need to keep a small fire going for a couple days underneath. Smoked meats last much longer.

I didn't realize I wasn't subscribed. As far as I know from my own game play. No animal except the bear can recover from a bullet wound. Deer and wolves will always bleed out. Also, when a wolf attacks a deer, if the wolf makes contact, the deer always goes down. The only way to see an injured deer is if you just shot it and are tracking it, and it only is an "injured deer" for about three minutes (real time) before it's a "dead deer". The Bear on the other hand can take a couple of hits, survive, and recover health over a day or so game time. I avoid moose (no reason - I just have never gone after one) so I have no idea which pattern it fits. That's the problem with quartering your kill; you end up with four small pieces of meat. If you field butcher it, it takes longer and you get colder, but you only get one small piece of meat. The reason I don't like having many little portions of meat is I'll grab two steaks for a full day's hike only to find out that both steaks aren't even half of a full steak. I don't play with an empty stomach and try to maintain the "well fed" boost. Always keep one pair of work boots if you have them and keep them in good repair. They are ALMOST as good as the deer skin boots and make a good back up.
