Thanks fellas. Although I live in Canada this information is invaluable. Our peak rut in Ottawa is around November 15-20.

Hope topics like “lockdown phase” is covered in part 2. It would be fairly easy to get barometric data historically to align with movement patterns as well.

Here’s one: how do the collar devices influence/affect buck behavior? Do collared bucks move less bc they are self conscious? How do your results control for this confounding variable? (if that’s the proper use) can it be done? What are the limitations of this? How do other deer feel about the collared? Are they nervous? Bc in some sense you could therefore conclude that “collared bucks do xyz” you couldn’t generalize upon the larger population correct? Like how much time per day do the bucks spend trying to get the collar off? Certainly not zero especially initially. Shouldn’t that data be excluded? Is it excluded? Absolutely love your work please keep it up and branch to NY asap!

Building on the comment about age class… have you broken the data down by those age classes? Does deer movement behavior change with age? Good good stuff! Really enjoy your videos.

I understand that none of your data supports "moon phase" movement, but I was curious if "moon position" has any effect on deer movement? By moon position meaning directly overhead/underfoot being "major" feeding/movement times and moon rise/moon set being "minor" feeding/movement times especially when occurring near sunrise/sunset. BTW, I'm not a moon guy but a guy who hunts whenever I have the time regardless of moon phase or moon position, but I do find your buck studies extremely interesting. Thank you for your work!

They covered the moon on page 7 of the document. No correlation.

What is the average duration of data collection across your bucks/how many months or years after collaring did they stay alive? Shortest? Longest? If continuing this project it will be super interesting to see if more data points shift some of these generalizations.

did you separate the bucks by age group to see what was the difference in behavior been young and older deer

Most of the bucks were 3.5 and 4.5. A couple 2.5 and a couple 5.5+

I’d love to see if there is a relationship between a mobile bucks second home range and where he was born at and got pushed off his mother.

Great work as always. Looking forward to the next parts. What time of day were the net displacements measured? Midnight measurements could maybe differ from noon measurements. Also, did size of cover areas correlate to daytime safe zones? Were smaller cover focal areas selected for over larger sized cover focal areas?

Awesome data. How does this movement over such a large area affect those with smaller acreage and trying to manage for older age classes? Is it even possible for those hunters to manage for older age classes with acreage sub 100 acres.

“Bucks” is broad term. Is your research specific to white tail? Is there mule and black tail study’s involved in your research? I hunt blacktail here in Northern California at 5-9000’ elevation
