They adjust their playing style to the situation, the live playing rocks hard, and there is usually more going on with the drums. The CDs provide more detailed view into the compositions, with a little more focus on the "pop" side. How great that they don't try to reproduce the albums live but rather use the songs for live interpretation. In the car or at home I usually listen to the CDs, but sometimes, when I want t get really charged, I Iisten to my live recordings. I NEVER get tired of DH.

Fantastic! One of these tours I might take some time and follow them about. A documentary would be fun.

Thanks! I am working on editing three concerts since then which I recorded in Denver, Rochester and Albany. They use 2 to 4 cameras, But I don't think they'll be any better than this one - however they do have tunes from Breakup Song.

Please keep the eyes on the prize - Deerhoof deserves mature behavior guys.

Right LOL!!I saw Terry with Zappa way back when, with the massive set. Yeah, I imagine Terry could be amazing with this tiny kit if forced to do it - but I'm not sure he would ever move me like Greg does. Funny how Greg makes this almost a drummer's band - except that I am endlessly fascinated with their guitar work too, and as Greg said, "we wouldn't be much pf a band without Satomi". Synergy incarnate. I expect Zappa would have liked Deerhoof, especially the tricky compositions and humor.

Runner's Four was such a great album, long and varying. They really got rocking on that album, but still the pretty songs and fun songs like Lemon and Little Lemon, and Vivid Cheek Love Song.If you are in to it, it's interesting to count the meters/beats in Wrong Time Capsule. I think of WTC and Perfect Me as their rock anthem tunes, though there are other candidates.

I think they are two different bands. I like them both and hard to say which I like best. I'm a drummer of 30 years so I kinda like live but I like studio fun too. Someone will have to decide for me. By the way I can do about half of what Greg does after my 30 years of pissing about - hard hitter like him. He is more natural than it is possible to be :)

I've seen them every tour since Runner's Four, and this was one of the very best, which is saying a lot. wasn't it just a killer night? yeah. Are you from Santa Fe? Great town.
@MrToiletLove3 жыл бұрын
I went on tour with a no-name band in 2011 and Santa Fe was my favorite stop. Couch surfed at a place with like 15 people high up on a hill and took in the gorgeous scenery for 2 days. Didn't know about Deerhoof at the time, but knowing them now and thinking about it, you sure must've had a great life around this time.

I'm now a fan! But I think I prefer their sound live to the sound on their records. Just an opinion. Doesn't mean I don't dig them though :)
