A lot of people say music today sucks or that rock is dead but they need to listen to these guys...and other alternative bands. It’s alive and well. 8 years later and it still gives me the willis. Absolute genius/masterpiece.

@@dangercat9188 Agree. Really good bands were very popular in the 90s. I can't think of many bands that are popular today that are great. However,if you want to dig for it, there are tons of great bands today. I'm 45 and I love all kinds of music, especially from my era, but some of my favorite bands ever are ones that are killing it today (Ty Segall, Ohsees, Bass Drum of Death, Reignwolf.) Music is definitely alive and well; unfortunately, so is commercialism. The good thing is, we still know that the good stuff still exists. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to start this song over.

The only difference is this type of sound would've been mainstream in the 60s/70s and not in the "Indie/Underground" scene.

The lyrics: Back to the middle This is where love has left me It's an endless cycle Please don't take it away from me Look at me Your hair is falling out now Your two by four You left me doubting Back in the middle Everyone knows your name now It's all accidental Your love is such a sick, sick game How could he? The basic way you used me Why does it have to be so brutal? Back in the middle Take me where I can see some stars Take me to your cabin Like you promised so many times You and me You broke free You broke me And you left me these little pieces

There is a link to make between this video and the video for "Dans Mon Corps" from quebec band Les Trois Accords (The 3 Chords). Their video (from 2009) mimics an old Motown video, except the singer (who is also a black lypsinching white indie rock) sings an ackward chorus ("In my body, in my little girl's body, there are changes!") and it's the same gender -bending effect as in this video, though it's surely coincidental.

To all that are saying this theme is borrowed from The Orwells, the coincidence is just that, purely coincidental. It's not like The Orwells were the first band to have, you know, black singers filmed in black and white for a video-search The Supremes, Baby Love..circa 1964, which was 30 years before The Orwells were born.Thanks.

Deerhunter set the stage for artists like DeMarco; did the real legwork, built up their musical repertoire(past more than two albums and a handful of tiny EPs[like DeMarco]) and following, brand recognition(in an underground scene), etc. OVER A PERIOD OF SEVENTEEN+ YEARS. don't kid yourself by thinking artists like DeMarco could be anything but the little brother to acts like Deerhunter. inb4 Mac DeMarco hater i really like him but Deerhunter has sweat blood to pave the way for guys like him. they deserve a little recognition.
