Any accounting of indie rock’s history is incomplete without assessing the sizable contribution of Modest Mouse. 1996's “Dramamine,” built on a circular, 12-note guitar line and singer Isaac Brock’s haggard shouts, announced the band's approach: deeply melodic, thoughtfully experimental, sonically jagged, and a bit manic. Before the turn of the century and well into the ’10s, high school teens with impeccable music taste were evangelizing Brock's outfit. 2000’s ‘The Moon & Antarctica’ still induces waves of melancholic nostalgia for this bunch; “Float On” and “Dashboard” from 2004’s ‘Good News For People Who Like Bad News’ and 2007’s ‘We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank’ respectively, have been staples on indie playlists since their release. As its listeners have matured, so too has the band's music-making process. Once frantic in their output, Modest Mouse took half decade-plus pauses before putting out their last two albums - the new ‘The Golden Casket’ follows 2015’s ‘Strangers To Ourselves.’ It was a pleasure fitting the band into our studio for a performance of “We Are Between” and “Back To The Middle.” One outlet recently called ‘The Golden Casket’ some of Modest Mouse's "most luxuriously textured work.” Another pointed out a moving comment from a fan that sums it all up: “‘Brought me comfort at 13… Bringing me comfort at 31. My goodness, does life go by quick.’”

I definitely overlooked the magnificence of this song upon its release. Did not love/hate it... They performed it live in Asheville, NC to open the current tour and it blew me away. Keep coming back to it! I was so impressed with Damon's drumming, it really drove the performance. Could not help to think of Jeremiah💔. Although he was not behind the kit, these are all his unique arrangements 🤯. He's left such a mark on Modest Mouse's music and the music world in general.
