I liked the idea of a D&D version of "Dracula versus something", and knowing that my fellow players had chosen Fighter, Rogue and Ranger, I went with Cleric, specifically a Doctor (Life Domain), but this doctor has a little secret which rears an ugly head when she gets stressed...

Yet neither of them are multi-classed, nor do I plan on multi-classing at all. Same for my other 10 Characters, I don't intend on ever multi-classing.

Yeah it's always a bad sign when you join a group and they are insistent you play a healer. My last group I took 3 levels of Cleric just for the armor and aid. Mainly so I could tell them "I didn't become a life cleric to heal you! I did it for the Armor." Or "I already healed you when I cast max level aid." Between spending my highest spell slot on aid and the Paladin's Inspiring Leader feat we had lots of HP.

I made the most OP cleric of all time in 3.5. I could basically heal all day and because my pantheon was about healing I got extra XP for doing it. I was a pacifist so I wasn't allowed to attack and hurt anyone, basically just keep our party alive. Because of the XP bonus I slowly pulled away and I think I was like 11th level when the rest of the party was all around 7th. When they realized I was higher level than them they started complaining. I was like... I can't even attack anything. My only job it to keep you all alive and the more powerful I am the better I can do that.

@@DarkxAzi I suspect that's because healer are vital to a MMO because it requires real time execution, it both tactical and strategic in nature. In a table top rpg it is more like slave labor. A DM can address that by creating scenarios that better integrate the healing classes other abilities.

Everyone can seduce people. We've had druids, priests and magic-users seducing more people. There is no social skill roll, you just have to be charming and seductive. The big issue is that the moon-insectoid is a heathen, and the priest is a follower of Jesus Christ. Other than that you just serenade away.

@@efaristi9737 OD&D doesn' have much of social mechanics. You might roll a reaction roll that helps the DM judge what the gut reaction of an encounter is to the sudden presence of a troop of paramilitary goons. It's always up to judgement. Something like a beholder's "neutral" reaction is unreasonable hatred for all other life, including other beholders. The worst reaction a shop owner in town will give is to shoo you out of the store, bar the door and threaten to call the constabulary. Early bards were some kind of fighter-wizard-thief combo blokes. AD&D 2e bards had half the rogue skills of a thief, could use most weapons not quite as good as a fighter and learn spells one level worse than a wizard. They could sway a crowd and gather rumours faster.

Proper murderhobos usually learn the value of formation combat. At some point you start rolling around with a platoon of dudes. Even before that, people start to think in terms of small-unit tactics. You start to understand what a point man is or the value of coordinated fire.

At higher level you might have one or two fireballs per day. A line of mercs with guns is a less limited resource. They can carry powder and shot to hold the line for one skirmish after the other.

I was playing a cleric. I missed a session but figured, its fine just use my character for heals. The Dm gave control to the wizard, who decided "Clerics can fight in close so i'm going to fey step into the middle of this room and fight." My character died. Everyone else ran. They were slowly picked off one by one by wounds I probably would have been able to heal. Moral of the story, don't abandon the healer, don't give control of the healer to an idiot.

Reminds me of a war cleric that was in one of my campaigns. I think he had a 30 ac by the end of the campaign. He took every magic item that increased his ac, and feats that reduced the damage. At the end of the campaign we fought Tiamat, he blocked her breath attack with his shield, and deflected it. He was a beast.

Good thing about 5E. Every class has healing. Clerics are now just holy mages! And both clerics and wizards can tank. Barbarians can cast spells! I mean shit, thanks to 5E I'm a mid-range off tank DPS Warlock mixing melee and magic on the same action.

I am still not sure how a canon firing standard shot could wipe out an entire party. As they don't have much in the way of AOE damage . A canister of grapeshot would struggle unless said party is really bunched up and close to said canon.

First year of our campaign, we never had a proper healer, so the bard would always joke about being the designated healer. Now we have like five paladins and a squad of clerics that rotate into the party every week. Fights are nearly impossible to make challenging unless the boss can one hit them.

Glamour Bards are the only true healbot in 5e. Temp HP spam that isn't a spell slot, and is a bonus action on top of that, is much more effective than casting healing midway through battle. That Life Domain dip with druid for goodberry is only monstrously effective if your DM doesn't give you short rests.

Yeah, a Bard really should be filling in any gaps in the party makeup, or easing the burdan. He appears to jsut be trying to seduce and if not that, swashbuckling a bit. Bards of all types are good CC/Support Casters and solid healers. Seems he's just playing it for the stupid meme.

that's why I play a grave domain cleric: Let your party fall in battle and when they cannot complain anymore you heal them up so they don't have to use saving throws. Also "spare the dying" as PB-AoE-Spell is pretty useful.
