It was really awesome to listen to you folks talk about the movie. The character that dies before Amitabh revolts is played by the great theatre teacher Pt. Satyadev Dubey. Why Shashi Kapoor couldn't have the same trajectory is because he lost Jennifer his wife and then he just lost the very desire to live.

Shashi Kapoor did a movie in 1992 called Muhafiz/In custody. Its on KZbin. Movie is about a poet who is in his decline. Great movie. Falls under the "art" movie category. Has Shabana Azmi in it.

@@urjitawani. 1) A handsome superstar of the past accepts a role where him being overweight is due to his careless lifestyle, to the level of being a sloth. Not many would accept the role 2) Shashi Kapoor and a few others spoke great Urdu in the movie and there is good poetry 3) At least one amazing scene by Shabana Azmi; where she stands up for herself and for her own career that could have been. 4) The movie shows why Shashi Kapoor was different than other Kapoors.

I wish you guys could have called Kumar Varun for this one, he did a podcast on this, and is a big fan. My only problem with this narrative, similar to Ganga Jamuna, is the idea of the cop killing his brother for the sake of ‘duty’. The best double feature with Deewar would probably be Agneepath, which was conceived as an alternate take on Deewar. I wish you could have mentioned that fact in the alternate ending section.

I love animal aswell as deewar. Just 2 cents, when you say how now a days temple seen can not be done, don’t you realize rte way you oppose animal that is also an example of how not allowing right of expression to Vanga to exhibit gray character. Please be open, it’s okay to say you didn’t line the film , but saying this is not right to make movie like this or show characters like this is creating a very suppressing environment

People really get influenced by the movies they watch, especially teenagers. "Gangs of Wasseypur" is far more intense and violent but it serves story. Now, "Animal" isn't a great movie, to be honest. It kind of contradicts itself throughout, and the acting isn't all that great except for Ranbir Kapoor. Also, it's not cool when movies treat women as just objects without any real reason in the story. It feels like they're doing it to boost Vanga male egos, "ohh If Kabir Singh was misogynistic you, watch what I can do."

Deewar is a great movie for those times. But in a way, it is too idealistic. Btw, woke's of those times when deewar released trashed the movie as crass masala movie. Like the Animal movie is being trashed now. That's the problem in India, nostalgia sells.
