I liked this game when I was younger as a Def Jam fan. Looking back at it, I can see it's flaws. The fighting moves are severely limited, no combos, no special moves, no different styles. The environmental effects were a nice touch, but it seems they spent more time on that than the actual fighting. This could've been the best one if they just built upon the fighting system. Everything else was well done.

Graphics are good yet glitchy. Gameplay is well paced and fun once you get the feel of it. There is a block n counter system that’s decent and you basically use the whole pad including the d-pad to pull off the moves. Mastering the mixing and environment damage is fun and advantageous. There is plenty of styles strikes throws and grapples to master. It’s a ‘good’ game if you can pick it up cheap.

I actually like the game. As a fan of Def Jam games, I support the series til the very end. If anything, rather than make a new Def Jam game, I rather someone put out a remastered version of Def Jam: FFNY on PS4/Xbox.

They found the perfect formula with FFNY. All they needed to do was add characters and stages and new blazin moves. This DefJam icon is a mess of a game. They should go back to what they did on FFNY. Plus with recent advances in technology, they can do something awesome.

they were making an icon 2 that was going to improve the fighting mechanics but it got cancelled. you can see beta footage on youtube and i bet it would have saved the ip becauze they were making the fighting more inspired by fight for new york and not fight night like how this one did
