One of the things I love about Def Leppard's sound is the power-through beat. Down an arm, Rick didn't give up on what he loved and became a pioneer of the hybrid/electric set and brought basics back into a drumming world of show-offs. Never discount a simple, resounding, powerful beat. Easy to listen to, sticks in the brain, and makes the body move.

Rick Allen, the smiling drummer, has a reason to smile. After Pyromania he had a car wreck which severed his left arm. The band stated that if he couldn't play then they would just quit. So immediately after getting out of the hospital he started putting together a drum set that he could use his feet in place of his left arm.

My kids & I saw them at an opening of a Walmart close to Fort Bragg , NC YEARS ago. We are from NC but you guys wouldn’t believe where ppl drove from to see them, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, etc. These ppl weren’t soldiers. These ppl drove hours to see them. They even had a meet & greet afterwards. Everything was free & the guys were so nice and thought it was so cool that my kids loved them so much.

It was Hysteria like it was said. The drummer is Rick Allen. He lost his arm in an auto accident. He teach himself to play with one arm and drum trigger foot pedals. He didn't want to get quit so this is what he came up with . It's an incredible accomplishment. Pyromania was the first "record" I ever bought. High n Dry is another great album . Hysteria is an amazing album. It was the first they did after Allen learned how to play again.

Whenever I think of that song it reminds me of a Champions on Ice show that I went to. I think the whole cast skated to it. It's funny how songs have specific moments in time.

Hysteria is one of the ONLY albums to have every song a number 1 hit & Def Leppard was all about the music & not about their outfits or how they looked .

I don't know if you were planning on doing "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" but that's the rare song where the original, in this case by Def Leppard, and the cover, by Mariah Carey, are equally as good.

Part of that long period was waiting for Rick Allen to recover from his accident where he lost his left arm. He was determined to still play drums somehow and the rest of the band fully supported his effort never seeking a replacement. Allen eventually figured out how to set up the drum kit so he could compensate using his feet. He ended up playing/sounding nearly the same and most fans didn't notice any difference in style. This song and album (Hysteria) was a come back of sorts for Rick Allen and Def Leppard in general. Their fans apparently thought the album was worth the wait since it sold more than 20,000,000 copies and produced 7 hit singles. The dedication and band support of Allen demonstrated the love these guys felt for each other, which also helped their success.
