The reason why the drummer is smiling is that he lost an arm in a car wreck, and his band waited and supported him. Those, are friends...

The drummer is Rick Allen. He is was in the top 7 drummers in the world, even with one arm. We bow to Rick! The was in late May 1987 just outside of Amsterdam in Holland. The band spent three days with a travelling Romanian circus.

the man is a legend and well respected across the music world. To lose your arm in a car accident and not be able to do te thing you love would stop most people no no not Rick Allen. This guy went ahead and retaught himself how to play drums with the use of both feet and a specialized drum set.

I feel the same way about Metallica after the Black album, it was never the same again☹️ With these two bands and what they put out after these two specific albums, I can nitpick a song here and there and I'm fine with it. But I've never been able to buy a full album from either of these bands after those two specific albums, from Def Leppard and Metallica, but yes to everything before those albums👊🤘

One of the things I love about Def Leppard's sound is the power-through beat. Down an arm, Rick didn't give up on what he loved and became a pioneer of the hybrid/electric set and brought basics back into a drumming world of show-offs. Never discount a simple, resounding, powerful beat. Easy to listen to, sticks in the brain, and makes the body move.

It's hard to over-state the cultural significance of this concert = live album = full length feature film. Directed by freaking MARTIN SCORSESE!!! JAMAL - read about "The Band" and "The Last Waltz" so you know what you're getting into before you roll. YES to "Up on Cripple Creek"! AND YES to "Mannish Boy"! The Bob Dylan set gets split up, but "Forever Young/Baby Let Me Follow You Down" is great, then the encore when they bring out ALL THE STARS for "I Shall Be Released." Pure Magic.

Def Leppard has so many great songs, so many anthem song along ones. Every time I see them live my throat is so sore after from singing my lungs out. One of my favourites it Let's Get Rocked. Also check out Rocket, Foolin', Rock of Ages, Bringin' On The Heartache, Two Steps Behind, Women, Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad, Miss You in A Heartbeat, . . . I could go on.

The song is from the Hysteria Album, put out in the 1980's by Def Leppard. The drummer lost his arm in a car accident before this album came out, and the band waited for and helped him learn to play all the songs with one arm and extra foot pedals. THAT is how friends support and love each other.

Rick Allen, the smiling drummer, has a reason to smile. After Pyromania he had a car wreck which severed his left arm. The band stated that if he couldn't play then they would just quit. So immediately after getting out of the hospital he started putting together a drum set that he could use his feet in place of his left arm.

They even had a meet & greet afterwards. Everything was free & the guys were so nice and thought it was so cool that my kids loved them so much.

It was Hysteria like it was said. The drummer is Rick Allen. He lost his arm in an auto accident. He teach himself to play with one arm and drum trigger foot pedals. He didn't want to get quit so this is what he came up with . It's an incredible accomplishment. Pyromania was the first "record" I ever bought. High n Dry is another great album . Hysteria is an amazing album. It was the first they did after Allen learned how to play again.

Part of that long period was waiting for Rick Allen to recover from his accident where he lost his left arm. He was determined to still play drums somehow and the rest of the band fully supported his effort never seeking a replacement. Allen eventually figured out how to set up the drum kit so he could compensate using his feet. He ended up playing/sounding nearly the same and most fans didn't notice any difference in style. This song and album (Hysteria) was a come back of sorts for Rick Allen and Def Leppard in general. Their fans apparently thought the album was worth the wait since it sold more than 20,000,000 copies and produced 7 hit singles. The dedication and band support of Allen demonstrated the love these guys felt for each other, which also helped their success.
