KS K In the tiny town I grew up in, I was one of about three T-Rex fans. My friend used to let me sneak their albums in other artist's sleeves to get them past my profoundly uptight parents. I would do the same with Bowie. I'd take them into my bedroom, put on the headphones and be transported to another world/planet. We were devastated when he was killed. Most kids at school were familiar with "Bang a Gong". They'd no clue what they were missing. I still collect Marc Bolan memorabilia a bit. He was taken way too soon. My group of friends and I didn't listen to what our other friends listened to. Still pretty much that way. Best to ya!

As a younger guy my favorite song once it hit the radio in late 80s was Armageddon It, and I loved it so much, that catchy guitar solo, the melodic palm muting and such that Phil & Steve used on it and others...and when I first seen Joe Elliott in a video talking I was thrilled to see "the guy that sings Armageddon it!" He was my first vocal hero, and he's humble enough to admit he never thought he had a voice. His voice is one of the rare iconic rock voices of all time.

I never looked at why I’ve always had a relationship and love for music, other than just feeling it was the natural part of me, but when Joe talked about playing the guitar was probably just a way to keep singing, then it hit me, that was me too. I always kid everyone that I like music because my mom used to set in front of the TV after she fed me my bottle and it was always when American Bandstand was on. She noticed I didn’t make a sound while the show was on, the I would start to cry when it was over. I loved learning the guitar but it was actually to singing along that made it complete. Thanks Joe for helping me understand why I played the guitar for just a few years but I have never quit singing😉

Having admired Def Leppard since the very early '80's, I was thrilled to finally get a chance to see them live at a very small venue. I paid an obscene amount of money to do a "meet and greet". What a let down. I don't know if they were having a rotter of a day or just what was going on. The only member not surly was Rick Allen. He was a true gentleman and a delight to be around. Even though, I was sorely disappointed in the rest. Especially Joe Elliot. I have always appreciated that he listened to many of the artists I did growing up. I'm two years his elder. So, yeah, I was one of the kids with the radio and earpiece late at night tuning into anything I could to hear new music! I have to give it to him. He knows his music history. Would be nice to have a sit and chat with him. Their gig that night was phenomenal. And, I had earlier purchased some of Rick Allen's artwork. The chief reason I was there. Had been in touch with the gallery for months that shows and sells his artwork. He came in after playing a two-hour gig and spent time with all the people who had purchased anything of his artwork. He sighed autographs, posed for photos and was fun! I've no idea where he gets his energy. Here he is. The preeminent drummer for one of the most famous rock bands on the planet. He puts on no airs at all. I will always be fond of Def Leppard and their side projects. They work hard and, after hearing this interview, perhaps I have a more proper understanding of their mindset. I've officially cut the rest of the band some slack for their rather odd behaviour that day. Who knows what they were dealing with? Shame on the 6 thumbs down...Long Live Rock. I need it everyday! By the way, Paul Rodgers voice, amazing an instrument as it is, is pretty much immediately recognisable. Joe Elliot is a bit like a chameleon, which, to me, is a wonderful talent.
@bettygreenhansen4 жыл бұрын
Gayla Smith As a Def Leppard fan who has quite a few mngs under her belt, and a woman of your same age, I am truly sorry that your meet and greet was less than you deserved. I have had absolutely wonderful and also downright horrible mng experiences. I agree with you that Rick is so welcoming to the fans. I have always found Phil to be very friendly too. If this helps, I have done a few single Rick Allen meet and greets and they are always everything you could hope for. I believe Rick offers his mngs through his charity Ravendrum on most tours. Where I was very sorely disappointed is this year there was no way on earth I could wrap my head around spending $2K on a single Joe Elliott mng this year, even though that has been an unfulfilled dream of mine for many, many years! It’s gonna kill me to be in the North Forty at Orlando, but $130 for two tickets was the best I could do. Usually I don’t settle for less than the “sweat zone” but that was made impossible this time with the outrageous ticket prices they are demanding. I just want to go on record as stating that Def Leppard is pricing themselves out of reach of their average fan who loves and respects them just as much as the well-monied. In 2013 Def Leppard asked $350 for an mng add-on, with a seat that cost me about $400 = $750 for a great seat and mng. On the current tour that privilege is $1250. Our income has not increased that significantly, if at all, and with inflation our dollars buy less. I think the promoters are doing these bands a disservice by jacking seat prices sky high, but God bless ‘em they are selling them. My bottom line, I will scrimp and save and someday I will have the cash to drop, so I’m glad Joe is never gonna retire, and I hope he will have a such a wonderful time this year doing his mngs, he will keep on doing them for many tours to come. Smaller venues please. And JUST Poison is fine! I wish the very best for Def Leppard. Keep the albums coming! Rock on!!! 🤘🏻✌🏻🤟🏻
@gaylasmith65664 жыл бұрын
@@bettygreenhansen I agree that there is greed afoot somewhere. Probably in management or the promoters. I was irked that the "Meet and Greet" we were promised and what we got were miles apart. I actually went solo to celebrate my birthday. The venue was small enough. I cannot possibly do large venues. Long story. I was able to spend some time with Rick Allen and was invited to another exhibit all expenses paid later in the year. I was speechless that he actually remembered me. He introduced me to his lovely wife, Lauren Monroe. I have kept in touch with the gallery and get invites from time to time. Rick Allen is incredibly accessible when it comes to his fans and admirers. I think he and his wife are two of the kindest people on the planet. When he recognised me after four months, I couldn't believe it. He is completely down to earth and humble. I won't be paying the outrageous ticket price to see the "circus" when it comes to the city close to me. And I will never do a meet and greet again. I never even got my photo with the band as my cell phone was nicked and I lost the link. I've quite a few photos with Rick Allen though. And four pieces of his artwork. Hope they DO keep on rocking! Most of my favourites from the '60's and '70's are mostly gone. I have a sister 7 years my elder. I'm not ancient. My formative years were the '70's and I was out on my own working in the '80's. The MTV generation. Back when they played music videos. I remember the first time I saw "Photograph". I was riveted to the telly. I can still remember everything Joe Elliot was wearing...My pay was docked for showing up late, but like any rocker worth her salt, I didn't give a toss! Still love all things Union Jack. Three of the four pieces of artwork I purchased by Rick Allen have the Union Jack incorporated in them. The fourth is photos of him through the decades. My estranged husband is extremely jealous. I live in a separate part of the house, so he can get over himself. Me, my wee dog, Rick Allen's artwork and a Bose sound system. Life is good! You take care and Rock On, as well! Also hope that you get to have a good talk with Joe Elliott someday, MM27.

As a kid who first heard GoW in the late 80's [and I will never forget where I was at that moment as a shiver went up my spine as I first heard a masterful piece of guitar work from a genuine artist] and fell in love with for me the greatest guitarist I never ever saw live Steve 'Steamin' Clark, who along with with Ace and EVH, Steve was more, he had it all like his idol Page. A true rock star who through his lyrical, song/melody/harmony riffing construction ability has enabled this man above to tour with DL ever since using Steve's massive legacy. Steve was the band member who said to Elliot when they were too afraid to get out of their factory "I do not want to still be rehearsing in this bloody spoon factory", and hence Leppard were born live. What I do give JE enormous credit for is every band arguably has a 'driver', for me personally Elliot has always been the driver. He's had the vision to go out and just do it, he designed the band logo, a man who had the concept of this band in his head before they'd even formed. Amazing really. All members are equal but Elliot is the driver, his determination, his parents lending him money to record their first record, Elliot has been a massive impact on music. I am not a real fan of Elliot but I do acknowledge the factual legacy he has given music and the band. he for me [and many will argue] has never given 'The Riffmaster' his real credit, the RRHOF went a much longer way than before, but Viv said it best for me last year "90pc of what we play Steve left us". Elliot's voice is raspier of course but compared to JBJ and others he's still kicking arse.

Keep rocking guys. My sister & I were big fans. In fact we wrote a parody of "Pour Some Sugar on Me" called "Douse Some Water on Me". I wish you all could hear it.

I take it the part where Joe says that he was never in into “Dungeons & Dragons" was a reference to Robert Plant's writing style.
