And to think, when I was first learning how to play the drums in 1991, I was told by an arrogant musician that I shouldn’t use a “one armed hack” as inspiration…Rick Allen has done more for the music community as a whole than most musicians have in my opinion. The amount of handicapped people who saw what Rick did after losing his arm and decided if he can still play in one of the biggest rock bands in history, then so can they. I’m included in this. Two years after I began playing, I was in a near fatal car accident. I broke my back and had my insides tore up. I didn’t lose limbs, and after a short recovery and some PT, I was up and walking again. The part where Rick has influenced me is after about 12 years of pain free life, my body slowly started to break down. I’ve had 21 surgeries since 1993. My low back is shot, I just had neck surgery to replace a torn disc, I have bulging discs in my neck still, my hips kill me to sit, I’ve had five ankle surgeries to repair torn tendons, bi-lateral carpal tunnel surgeries that jacked up my hands with nerve damage, and I get migraines from the head trauma from the accident all those years ago. But I’m still playing the drums. I may not be playing in bands anymore, but I still play twice a month at my church, and I have some friends who jam with me. All because I didn’t listen to a nobody musician who arrogantly said Rick Allen isn’t a real drummer.

i remember people saying that back in the Hysteria days i also remember me saying to them "You want a fucking kick in the head !!!" i also remember that they shut up very quickly I miss the old days, we stood up for what mattered and if you didn't have a case to stand for you shut up pretty quickly but if you did have a solid argument you defended it to the end, even if it meant a punch up or knife fight. I never let people talk shit about Rick, i used to remind them , we respected him on Pyromania, Why shouldn't we respect him on Hysteria and to not respect him was to be fake Like i said, they quickly shut up

I hope this doesn't come off as rude, but the hardest part about learning drums for me was a) sheet music, i needed to hear/see it play then I could pick it up and b) moving all four ligaments at different times and tempos, I would always catch myself not tapping the hi hat. Yet here this guy comes and makes it look like it's easy, i love it but I do wonder if it helped having to worry about 1 less arm and you could focus on footwork more but ofc Rick Allen has a whole story of relearning and becoming the best version of himself that he could after what happened

Rick Allen is such a gentleman and beast at the same time. If I was famous (and worked harder, and not gotten MS at 22, not diagnosed until 30. Im 34) I could've joined the league of Rick Allen, Vic Chesnutt, Michel Petrucciani and Tony Iommi and been like the... Jimi Hen drix of (varying degree of) disabled musicians!
