Sin is a problem that never goes away. We are worms like Achan. He was no worse than we are , and therefore need a Savior which we have in Jesus Christ. Alleluia that Christ is merciful to us. Let's continue to repent and let the Holy Spirit work in us to produce good works.

Thank you for this resource brother Guzik. I’ve been blessed by the Enduring Word app as well. So useful in sermon prep! Praying the Lord continues to use you as you yield in faith to him. Be richly blessed!

I like in verse 19 Joshua tells Achan to give confession to God for what he's done even though Joshua was there in between. Go pray directly to the source and not someone in-between like a priest.

I love how the Lord basically told Joshua to get up off that ground and get a grip. Saying he wished to God they’d stayed on the other side of Jordan was starting to sound like the Israelites complaining in the wilderness.

I am apt to believe that Achan’s sons and daughters were killed with him. In Leviticus chapter 5 if you have heard or seen a sin, then you also bear the iniquity. Korah’s whole family was swallowed up in the earth over Korah’s sin. If Achan’s family knew of his sin and kept silent, they too were guilty.

Achan’s covetousness took away any logical thinking. Not only would God know no matter how he tried to hide it, what good would the extra wealth do him? He couldn’t wear it without people knowing. He couldn’t sell it, what in the world did he think he was going to do with it?

It appears that God didn't tell Joshua to punish the man with death, only to remove the accursed thing from their midst. Joshua went too far imo.

The Lord told Joshua to burn him. Joshua did exactly what the Lord told him to do. Verse 15 15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
