Thanks to our donors and supporters, Defeat Duchenne Canada has been the leading funder of #Duchenne #musculardystrophy research in Canada for 30 years, granting $18.6 million to date.
Hear an update from Dr. Yoshitsugu Aoki at the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry in Tokyo, Japan, on his funded project: ‘Patient iPSC-derived brain organoids as a model for cognitive phenotypes of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.’
While not targeting the root cause of Duchenne, Dr. Aoki is building “mini-brains” to identify when short dystrophins are most important and to understand the processes at synapses that change when shorter dystrophin proteins are lost.
