Just removed twin to the Ohio state record holder Cottonwood a month ago. The falling tops shook the ground at a nearby asphalt plant and the employees all came down to see what was causing that. Parallel lives. (Well sort of)… Had to use a payloader to move the trunk sections. I see that you still are doing the dead tree climbs yourself. I’m the same way. Great video August. Stay safe 👋

Great video and soundtrack. I have recently discovered Jimmy Clifton and enjoying his music. I'm a newer tree guy that really appreciates what you do and how you talk through the thought process of working a tree. I do tree work part time and haven't had a mentor. I'm a fairly smart man with some common sense and between you and Buckin I have learned so much. Thank you for making these videos.

Oh, I HATE dead cottonwoods too. Big ol patches of bark flaking off as soon as you stick your spikes into it. Crashing you into the truck and smashing your nads just like you weren't looking forward to that day. Then try to stick the spikes into the wood and it's like a brick that you just can't get a grip in. I had the same situation about 8 years ago. Big dead limb hanging over teh fence. I hit it square. Cost me half the job to fix. I defeated that Goliath that day but it came at that cost. Some days you get the bear. Some days the bear gets you.

When you said "Gotta go higher.." 😅 I'm watching you and, on one hand, saying "don't go any farther, it's already sketchy" but on the other I know exactly every thought you've had about that tree because I would have thought the same ones. "It's gotta get done, nobody else is going to do it, and I'm already up here." Also, not because I'm arrogant, but 9/10 guys with me would be neither willing nor capable of doing it. One of the 10 may be cocky or dumb enough to volunteer, but I haven't worked with anyone who wanted to learn to climb, and actually got their ass up a tree, let alone finish one. I can't wait to get back into tree work, thanks for your videos.

This is were experience meets courage without ego…especially with cottonwood wood this dead-if you unbalance the crown -even a bit to much - you might experience failure below. Especially in a crown architecture as this tree had. Great work…Glad you were safe. So much going on in your mind-constantly accounting for the weight you cut, where you cut it, feeling every movement-interpreting it…to much for a video-but a stream of consciousness would be amazing for beginners to witness…as easy as you made it look-it was fraught with real palpable danger only known to veterans…
