I knew a tree surgeon here in the Uk, and he used battery Husqvarna saws in London because a lot of the jobs he did early in the morning and people dont want to be woken by noisy chain saws. He and his crew also wore the same helmet as August to save shouting!

The last time I used my gas saw was the day I bought my Stihl 220.

Lets be real. Battery saws are not for professionals. Maybe to top trees or odd jobs. House hold use sure. But there is NO replacement for a gas saw. They last for a very long time and do not have to charge batteries making run time in the bush the only choice. There is no denying these simple facts.

Battery saws ARE ALSO for professionals. I can name MANY. I’m not “replacing” gas. I’m talking about adding battery saws. Simple facts.

i use makita and am now starting to mill with that 20ms 2x18v lxt tophandle (no meter wide oak slabs, but still). really fiddly to make it spinn up. made 12.0 ah batteries for it with china 15x21700cases and some of the simplest pcb's without transistors(they just burn) and some beefed up bussbars and power nor runtime is an issue. you are so right about how annoying all of the safetyfeatures are, almost as frustrating as makita refusing to make some good batteries for their 18v stuff. when they become available i will certainly start milling with the bigger milwaukee. love the concept!

Thanks for posting both how you down such a large tree and comparing the Stihl vs. Milwaukee saws. The verdict is self evident and a surprise. I'm looking for excuses.... Hmmm. The bar lengths are the same. Do both saws use the same chain width, the same tooth profile, equivalent tooth sharpness, and batteries starting with a full charge? If all those are equal, I wonder if having two batteries and two electrical connections permits a greater maximum current. (as opposed to Stihl's motor being inherently weaker) This is more than an academic question. A couple months ago, based on the name and tests documented on another channel. I bought the same Stihl MSA 300 and AP 500 battery. P.S. I'm not a 'pro', and don't need blazing speed. But I willingly paid a premium for something which should remain serviceable, with parts being available for well over a decade.

Just discovered this channel. I’ve never seen anything quite like this. Another profession I could never ever ever aspire to join (like astronaut or Navy SEAL). 😳🫣 But I really enjoyed watching from the safety of my ground level couch.

Fantastic short film August- great to see your daughter getting involved! I too have a red top handle and it’s been a great saw and cuts surprisingly fast for what it is. Hey if it works it works and better for fire season if you need to cut still!

That’s the first time the I’ve seen a tree taken down using strops around the branches and sending them down a zip line. I was struck by the calmness you chaps displayed whilst up at the very top and particularly when the tree tops fell and the tree was moving around. The explanations and the speed of the verbal delivery made it compelling and interesting to watch. Stay safe and best of luck. W 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

The dual battery Milwaukee looks like a nice saw but at $900 for the kit I would get a 40cc -50cc gas saw before this. Pretty expensive for what you get.
@AugustHunickeКүн бұрын
Yeah true. I guess its something that you buy for other reasons than price point. For example, working past 1 o’clock in fire restricted areas in the Pacific Northwest.
@hkcitationКүн бұрын
@@AugustHunicke Yeah you have a point if you needed it for other reasons like noise restrictions or if you don't want to deal with gas, then it looks like it works really well and has similar power to a 40cc-50cc class saw. That top handle makes sense up in the tree, no need to pull start it constantly between cuts.

what does the comparable 20" gas chainsaw weigh?

“Back in the day” folks were using the battery powered sawzall with a demolition blade to cut firewood while out camping…. Fast forward 25 or so years and and they have a few reasonably priced and reasonably powerful battery chainsaws on the market… good on em for finding a niche in the market and filling it with something that’s enjoyable to run.
