Something I’d like to hear more about is this idea of THINKING being actually tiring… You mentioned on several podcasts including Rogan that once you got to SK the thinking required to make decisions was such a burden that at one point you would have considered a return to life in NK preferable if only you could have enough food (pretty wild considering how bad NK was!). This wasn’t explored any deeper in any of these cases but I feel like it is important because while we don’t generally consider thinking to be tiring in the west I think many people do less thinking than they probably should and certainly thinking DOES actually consume energy so it makes sense that even if we don’t realize it (because in a complex and relatively free society we must think so much that we are acclimated to it) that the body would send signals to us to avoid thinking to some degree (similar to how working out makes us feel physically tired)… Throughout most of human history (and even today in NK) thinking has been of relatively little use while calories it consumes have been quite valuable… Basically if you are a caveman sitting at your fire contemplating the universe your body will be telling you “chill the fuck out Einstein… We only have 2 berries to eat today and we need those calories to hunt a wooly mammoth!”… Of course today western people have too many calories so there is literally no downside to thinking… But those instincts are probably no easier to shake than getting tired after a workout… If people realize that there is a natural bias against thinking they may compensate by thinking more… Which is a good outcome

I think most leaders do not want to entertain the idea of a nuclear war, which would be certain if he was not taken out first. Our materialistic leaders only *help* when there's something in it for them.

Unfortunately it would be far more complex than this, way too complex. Not to mention humanity is horrible and disgusting in general so co-operation to live on a better and more peaceful planet is simply out of the question. The day humanity and earth get along at least fairly well enough will never exist.

The saddest thing for me personally is when people don't believe her, what she says about the regime. I'm Russian and as soon as i heard her story... Well, i wasn't too shoked. In fact i kinda expected to hear what she is telling. Which, if you think about it is quite disheartening... The real world is not free. Freedom is a luxury. Autocratic systems are a default, to which every political system wants to degrade to, if not continuously pushed against by the people. Cherish your freedom. Yeah, it comes with accountability for your own actions, but it's worth it. Because the opposite could be hell. Literally. NK is hell on earth.

Chin has recently come out and said he was lying about everything he said about North Korea and being in camp 14. This came after the North Korean ragiem released a video of Chin's father sitting in, what for North Korea can only be described as, quite a nice living room. The man was holding up what he said was Chin's birth certificate and saying he was lying. After this Chin 'admitted' his story was a lie. But I don't believe it was. Here is why. Any North Korean who defects will probably say something in their life along the lines of this. "I want to do something to help my brothers and sisters left behind there. I want them to know I did not just come to the South to fill my belly." They are all still thinking about the unfortunate loved ones they have left behind. Now, put yourself in Chin's shoes. He already blames himself for his mother and brother's execution. Then he is left tormented with imaginings about what his father is going through as a consequence of Chin's own escape - never mind public testimony. The guilt, the more he learns about humanity and receives kindness, must be crippling! (Remember, you can't even kill yourself in North Korean detention without sentancing all you love to torture and death too. What ever the regime wants to put his dad through his dad must endure it.) Then, one day, he sees his father is not only alive but seemingly sitting outside of camp walls, in a living room! The connotation is clear, 'say you were lying and your dad gets to stay here'. For anyone in Chin's position saying you were lying to save your father - and your own guilt - seems a tiny price to pay. No price at all really when you think of the real suffering a North Korean camp inmate has witnessed and been through. He did that for his father, in my opinion. All he could do really. A way to show he isn't just "filling his belly" and forgetting about his brothers and sisters still in the North.

I agree, it could easily be the case for Yeonmi Park as well since people have claimed that she also lies in some of her stories. Her stories have truth in them but there is that possibility there's an incentive to make up or exaggerate stories, lying to save someone else is pretty common and it can happen anywhere.

Shin's story isn't a lie, his father was probably forced to say those things because of the regime, it's North Korea that's lying. Yes, his book was edited cuz North Korea lied first and he later admitted that it was edited for drama purposes but he indeed wasn't lying the injuries are visible on him, his legs and finger, it's Kim Jong un lying to the world so North Korea doesn't get exposed

Is North Korean/Russian border guarded as heavily as the one with China?
@brucemcchundra8658
@brucemcchundra8658 Жыл бұрын
Yeonmi appears to be missing in action for the past couple of months, but I'll venture an answer. That part of China bordering North Korea has a large Korean(-speaking) population, so escapees into China have a chance of blending in in a city and not being immediately conspicuous. That doesn't apply on the Russian side of the northern border, where the only place to run to initially is a godforsaken village called Khasan, populated by Russians. You can search for Khasan on Google Maps Street View and take a virtual walk around some of it. It looks as poor and bleak as any North Korean village would likely look. A North Korean wandering around there would stand out like dog's balls, and my understanding is that Russia hands any North Korean escapees back to North Korea. There are also no large towns nearby to try to disappear into. There are a few villages near the border on the North Korean side, but very few North Koreans would be able to cite a plausible reason for a permit to travel there even if considering an escape into Russia. But the point here is that there's no incentive for North Koreans to attempt to escape into Russia anyway, so while one can assume that there's guarding along the border with Russia, it would be a dull posting for a border guard without an incentive to intercept would-be escapees and solicit a bribe from them to allow them to cross. You're welcome.

So they can be a nice food additive, creating an extra source of protein. But again you need to go through the process. And yes, that means the insects or put a sleep, then allow to dry.And then they are roasted and then grind it into a very fine powder....

So what's happened to absentee Yeonmi lately? For the past two months, everything uploaded here has been repeat runs of old videos, or snippets from speaking occasions that were at least two months old (and already available on KZbin as well). Is she getting married? Having a baby? On vacation? On a speaking tour? Ill? Having more plastic surgery? Abducted by North Korean agents? Whoever is running this channel on her behalf knows.

She could have been TEACHING RUSSIAN and she did THIS CRAP. Why? Because she's a genetically superior version of me but she ALSO has at least one terrible parent and her community is facetious. She's waiting for Something. But I don't care: I just want her money, and she's going to give me all of it so that I can eat some sausages, whole wheat bread, and maybe something with sugar after tea, and then do some gentle stretching exercises while my stomach is full. This HAS REALLY CROSSED THE LINE.

She may honestly be done with KZbin, only so much content you can post before it runs dry. Also people are coming out calling her a liar so it could be that she decided to disappear, that's unfortunately common when a large group of people turn on you whether the accusations are true or not. Another possibility is safety concerns, perhaps she was warned or threatened and decided to keep quiet about her experiences. I know North Korean defectors are constantly at risk of being sent back to North Korea regardless of what country they're in, I'm sure she'll return if and when she's ready to.
