I went to high school with her. I didn’t know she was North Korean because she did not know much English and was quite shy- I knew she was Korean of-course but I did not know she was from the North. So glad to see that she is doing well. In high school I thought she was this pretty and rich education-immigrant, I had no idea that she has went through such hell to get here and it was so much more than just a rich foreigner whose parents sent them over seas for a coveted American education. Goes to show you that you never know what somebody has went through, and to always be kind.

There's no guarantee bribery will always work, they took the same risk as anyone trying to escape and the border agents could've easily turned down their money and turned them in. The money just increased their odds slightly but it was still a huge risk.

They way she explained how she and other children witnessed the execution in front of the elementary school, with no sadness at all, not that she is cold, but I think she had seen it for too many times that she is just numb. @@stepani8059 I probably worded it a bit bad, most people out of the DPRK are indeed allowed to go outside of their nation if they get allowed to, like today in most western nations that are not in a construct like the EU. The people there are just not allowed to leave and enter that freely since North absolutely needs their population, the country is isolated. And that isolation is NOT by choice, there are heavy sanctions on North Korea by the USA and even a embargo like the one currently active in Cuba, which basically makes trading with other nations entirely impossible. People in North Korea have a average life like any other western citizen, just not in the way we are used to(being able to buy expensive goods and all due to trade restrictions I mentioned earlier). If you ever find all these straight up lies about North Korea in the media just remember one thing: Most media outlets take South Korean news papers as a source, South Korea is still at war with North Korea on paper and heavily influenced by the western nations, especially the USA, so they of course do anything to bring down the DPRK as a country and put in place probably a ruthless dictator like they did in South Korea. If you ever find interviews from people out of North Korea, look up these people and their stories and potential drama surrounding them, since most of these people are just straight up making things up for the news, if you don't believe me that something like this can happen, look up the Nayirah Testimony. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I enjoy answering them a lot.
