Yes carriers are white elephant for any country. It is also true carriers carry huge fleets of arms ammunitions etc loaded with next level technologies. With advancements in radars missile technology and satellites these carriers become sitting duck and loss of these carriers will be nightmare for any country as carriers cost is very high and complexity involved in building these. we should be working on submarines. Later 2 big carriers for patrolling, 3 mini carriers for protecting islands.

Aircraft carriers need to be nuclear powered for them to be relevant in today's world. Thats because the space taken by oil for the ships propulsion can be as much as 35-40% of the ships total tonnage and thats no longer available for aircrafts. The reactor only takes 10% -15% of the volume, runs for 15 years and frees up 40% of the ship for Aircraft fuel, ammunition storage and workshop areas. Conventional ships need more supply support than nuclear ones. For carriers, its a major consideration, unlike in destroyers and small submarines. Space efficiency is also the fundamental reason for catapults. The nuclear carriers are typically only 40% larger than conventional but carry 4 times the aircraft, fuel and ammo. Their sorty rates are much higher.

Ye sari comment me Indian shortcut marne wala opinion hai. Aircraft carriers are useful and a necessity but they don't work alone. They have multiple other ships working with them in tandem. So if you build one aircraft carrier and don't invest in building those other ships which can do cyber Warfare, missile defense, which have icbms and topedos, another having SAMs and Radars... Plus a host of other fighting vehicles along with anti submarine Warfare suite..... Your don't actually have an aircraft carrier. You just have a floating island. But if you already operate a large navy, add an aircraft carrier to the group, and create a potent strike group, and you see your naval prowess go up.

I heard many people questioned why UK wanted carrier...and even why Russia is desperate to keep their one carrier afloat....i once read and article about the countries...applying for permanent seat in UN and i saw Aircraft carrier as one of the check box....i guess that is the reason they are so desperate to keep it.

China is already a part of UN permanent council since decades without aircraft carrier 😂 there is no such rule. Russia keep it to train navy pilots. They don't want to lose "naval pilot" Capability
