Defending a Gadd [Game Theory][Super Mario Betrayed]

Quick disclaimer: this video was produced and edited together in its entirety before the release of Luigi's Mansion 3, so you won't be hearing anything about it in this video. Even so, my points still stand.
Professor Elvin Gadd is a mystery of a man, but evil is not something I'd call him. MatPat sure wants to, though. How about I show you all why this whole conspiracy theory should go the way of the moon landing and not exist, hm?

QUICK ADDENDUM: At 15:42, I probably should not have brought up this point this way, as it directly conflicts with Partners in Time and doesn't really make a lot of sense (because I did say sixty, not six and I'm sorry). Part of the point still stands, however, because Gadd does state that it took 20 years to make the Ghost Portrificationizer, meaning he had to have been there for at least 20 years, which still gives him plenty of room to not know who Mario and Luigi are. Sorry for the mix-up there and thank you Seándwalsh for helping me get this cleared up. Also, sorry for how that one post-production point about the orbs sounds, I recorded while sick and I absolutely should not have. Please forgive me.

@@kriscastro6050 MatPat, in that point, was technically making the assertion that Princess Peach was alone, which is made very clear if you listen to his wording throughout the entire point. Furthermore, I would presume that no one assumed that sending Princess Peach to her own castle in the past would have drastic ramifications, which is something else I could have addressed but didn't.

Here’s something. In Luigi’s Mansion 3, during Stewart’s boss battle, we see E. Gadd cheering for Luigi behind the ghostly gate. And two of his inventions for the Poltergust G-00, Gooigi and the Super Suction. The Super Suction is a powerful suction that Luigi can use in situations like a pile of wood blocking a hallway or if the elevator gets blocked with a bunch of junk. Now with Gooigi. Gooigi can walk through fences, walk on spikes, and can take arrows, something Luigi can’t do himself. Gooigi even helps Luigi with certain situations like smashing a heavy watermelon, squeezing through pipes, and helping defeat King Boo. Why would he invent Gooigi? This green gooey doppelgänger? So Luigi stays alive of course.

4:53 the reason Matpat (and most people) says that Sunshine takes place after Luigi's Mansion is because of some dialouge in Hotel Delfino. There's a janitor there that says the following: "All these ghosts are causing such trouble. They're everywhere! Why can't someone come along and suck 'em up with a vacuum........What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Also side note,but are you familiar with Swanky Box? he made a theory similiar to this and his version came out about about a year before GT's version.

I always loved that line... though I would be remiss if I didn't bring up the possibility that the look was "what the heck kind of nonsense are you smoking?"... which doesn't really hold up when you remember we're talking about _Mario's_ world. The king Boo in sunshine is just a creation of Bowser Jr via the magic paintbrush, he's not the actual King Boo, however it was confirmed multiple times that the King Boo we see in Luigi's mansion and the one we see in the Mario kart, Mario party and paper Mario jam games are the same.

I have to bring this up too: Mat refers to Junior, Wario, and King Boo as the "bad guys" to support his bullshit theory that Gadd helps them. But didn't he just make this whole point at the start where "not everything is black and white", and "Bowser could very well be a good guy"??? Since he likes to plug in this theory so much, if Mario is supposed to be a "sociopath who's the true villain", shouldn't Gadd be considered evil for helping HIM and good for helping Junior and the others? His theories are fucking laughable, and it's a wonder how anybody considers them to be fact.

To answer your question why people would considered well, Matpat’s theories true or any generic “Mario is a scumbag” theories is the same reason as to why people make parody animations where Mario characters are, well, jerks, just for shock value or because well because Mario is considered “squeaky clean”

I used this for justification that King Boo was accidentally corrupted by E. Gadd, as King Boo was once a regular King Boo until that day where he got that crown. I regret getting this idea from this theory, though not making my own headcanon. Also, who is your character? Matpat is really blowing every mistake E. Gadd makes out of proportion. Also, Guard Dog and Guard Mario, Matty Patty is contradictingly contradicting himself, again. 16:28 The Mansion only popped up moments ago. 17:48 Inspiration, not correlation. Everything you said is honestly on point. I'm currently at the device part, and I borderline agree. There is also that the reason why Wario and Waluigi and Boo and Dry Bones got those capsules was because it fit their characters, from the fact that Wario and Waluigi use stuff to cheat and steal, while Boo and Dry Bones should be open to using magic considering their undead, blue-fire using status. It just makes perfect sense, even the senile old man could get it.

MatPat's Theory about Gadd is very flimsy. Let's consider that the Mario Party series is non-canonical in the main Mario timeline. Each Mario title has its own timeline, Paper Mario shows that it has its own universe thanks to Mario and Luigi Paperjam. Mario and Luigi it's also its own universe separate from the Main Timeline. Mario and Sonic Olympic Games it's also its own separate universe. Mario vs. Donkey Kong it's also its own separate universe. That's why there are so many inconsistencies in every Mario game because Nintendo doesn't have a timeline in mind. They admit this with the Zelda Timeline debate, so it's easy to assume the same for the Mario Series. However, MatPat insists on using Super Smash Bros or any of the Sport Mario games as evidence every time he makes a Mario theory. Then it's not Gadd's fault that Bowser was possessed by the Eldest Princess Shroob. And it's not Gadd's fault that Princess Peach was kidnapped by Shroob because he has no idea what was happening. So, Gadd wasn't working alongside Shroob at all, so I'm not sure why MatPat brought that up. At this point, I started to think that MatPat is losing control over his ego since he keep making Theoriests with flimsy evidences, or evidences that make no sense. MatPat is supposed to be smart, but I started to think that his IQ had started to decline or that he just had too much ego.

The issue is that no one expected the Shroobs. You have to remember that the Shroobs had never happened before. And so no one was aware they were gonna invade. That and E. Gadd was very confident as was everyone else. With only Toadsworth naysaying.

This may be over 2 Years old, but there are a few things I can suggest to raise some doubt on your reasoning for debunking MatPat's claims - I'm not trying to defend Game Theory, just clearing up misconceptions... *Luigi's Mansion:* The reason Professor Gadd tells Luigi he can have the treasures within the Mansion might be because he knows how much money he could sell the Ghost Paintings for; he _does_ say that Mario's Painting would "fetch a generous sum if I sold it at an Art Auction", meaning he's already considering ways to keep his research going if Luigi were to fail! *Super Mario Sunshine:* I'm quite certain that the Copy Mario disguise Bowser Jr. uses is only possible _with the Power of the Magic Paintbrush,_ as we only see him using it when he uses said Paintbrush - even in Smash Brothers, when he wouldn't necessarily need to; there's not much reason for E. Gadd to hand Junior the device without a disguise, unless he knew how it'd be used; Also, the F.L.U.D.D. is only found _after_ Mario is arrested for the Plaza vandalism; so the Pianta could have placed it there to be used by Mario to 'clean up his Act'; so there's still the possibility that E. Gadd _sold_ the F.L.U.D.D. to the Pianta as a solution to the mess that was made, without knowing that Mario would arrive by Plane shortly afterwards... That brings a point to mind: How would Prof. E. Gadd _even know_ Mario and/or Luigi would be coming to use the F.L.U.D.D. unless he checked up beforehand? It's more likely that he orchestrated this disaster with the forethought that one of the Mario Bros. would already be on their way to clean up after him! *M&L Partners in Time:* You can't really call Toadsworth and one other Toad a Security Retinue - they went and hid behind Peach at the first sign of confrontation!; The Help he provides the Mario Bros. were things he had designed for Himself, so he knew he'd get them back after the Quest was over. And the least he could have done is properly restrain Bowser before bringing Mario to him as 'a Surprise'! Yes, the Starbean's Cafe was a second source of Income for E. Gadd, but the ulterior motive behind it was being able to taste all of the unique flavours of Coffee (for _Free,_ might I add) that could be made with all the Beans gathered (once again, _for Free!_ ) by others looking to get a cup of 'joe. As usual, Prof. Gadd's research has top priority, and any additional benefits he receives from a business venture is inconsequential to him... *Luigi's Mansion 2 - Dark Moon:* We already know how E. Gadd will do very careless things if it will let him continue researching, so Selling his Ghost Paintings wouldn't be beyond him; I do believe he sold King Boo's painting _alongside them_ by Accident though, as part of his eccentricities; or he could've sold it if offered a huge sum for it... *His Other Inventions:* Mario Party 7's Orbs didn't necessarily have to be explained, but they did it anyway - there's no guarantee that these items won't be used _after_ the Cruise, however! *Prof. E. Gadd's True Intentions:* My own Theory as to why he does these things doesn't see E. Gadd as truly _Evil,_ but there is the potential for him to go waaaay too far; I think his fascination with the Bros. is actually with _only One_ Brother: Luigi. As the former Assistant of Vincent Van Gore, E. Gadd knows what it's like constantly being known only by Association with another Famous person. He managed to pull out of his Mentor's shadow with his inventions, and wants to help Luigi become a True Hero in his own right after being reminded of himself. However, the means by which he's done so are Chaotic at best - and downright _Evil_ at worst! He allows Mario to explore the Mansion without any sort of Warning of the different nature of the Ghosts inside; he arranges a disaster at Isle Delfino to hopefully force Luigi to clear his Brother's Name, while profiting off the sale of the F.L.U.D.D. (Mario staying locked up is of no consequence to him, just leaves Luigi to save the Day!); he creates Artificial Replicas of the Mario Bros. as a means to provide assistance to Luigi without trying to steal the spotlight from him; and does all of this knowing that these trials have the direct effect of advancing his own Research! *This* is why Professor Elvin Gadd is a threat to the Mushroom Kingdom: His reckless endangerment of everyone in pursuit of his own Goals is eventually going to result in irreversible damage to their World, and Luigi might not be able to handle it by Himself...

While a lot of good points here let me say this. It is based on a lot of assumption. Is it not more sound that the character, who is pretty much always characterized as absent minded and not thinking things through, simply didn't think Jr was a threat. Especially when Mario and Peach hadn't even known of him until this game, and Gadd was a recluse. Also are we all just gonna... Ignore, the fact that F.L.U.D.D is a cleaning device? Like a device, made for cleaning. So the Pianta's probably just, own F.L.U.D.D as means of cleaning the island and gave him to Mario to let him serve his sentence of Community Service. While not perfect, it makes much more sense. For things like the Star Beans Cafe. The Mario Bros are the ones who find and offer the beans for free. As they probably know that E. Gadd isn't just gonna leave them out dry for their efforts. As for him planning to sell the paintings of Luigi failed. Your point is not any proof of anything other then E. Gadd has a fascination with Ghost Paintings. Not that he would sell them. Excusing the fact that if Luigi did fail, E. Gadd would be next, and without the Pultergust, defenseless. I do need some more solid proof that he would actually sell the paintings for some good chunk of change. As the only time we know he sold a painting. It was in a garage sale, and most likely didn't go for much. As for the PiT points. E. Gadd is an absent minded fool who is over confident in his efforts. The only nay-sayer and person warning about the potential risks is Toadworth who is easily dismissed as senile. And again, E. Gadd is an absent minded fool. He doesn't think about what he does, he simply does them. He found Bowser and simply just brought the Bros to him. Not considering the consequences. As for your theory, it seems to fall into the same pitfalls that Hat's theory does. It gives the impression of a theory that uses the worst assumptions of actions to prove itself, when their are far more likely possibilities that don't.

Gadd is an absent-minded fool with only circumstantial evidence - he's eccentric, but he's also _a Genius,_ so we should give him the benefit of doubt that he knows *exactly* what he's doing. E. Gadd was already in Delfino Plaza, leaving shortly before Mario arrived - and Mario _did_ know him, as Luigi's Mansion was released and officially takes place before Super Mario Sunshine. If E. Gadd was there, he likely had business there - his work ethic suggests he wouldn't be there for a vacation! Like I've said, I don't believe he's Evil, just careless in the execution of his plans. He doesn't _want_ Luigi to fail, but he would have backup measures if the case occurred. He does seem to lack empathy towards Mario, though - he lets Mario get captured by King Boo, he ends up Framing Mario for the Vandalization of Isle Delfino, and would have liked to sell the painting Mario was trapped in. He certainly doesn't care what happens to the guy, at least! I've been using the info at hand to predict what Prof. E. Gadd has been doing, and it's his reckless endangerment of others in the pursuit of progress in his research that sets off several of the incidents that Mario and Luigi have to deal with - and one day, he may go a bit too far...

@@endernoob097 For one thing, there's no reason the Pianta would have bought the F.L.U.D.D. if there wasn't a huge mess to clean up - general cleaning wouldn't be that difficult for the Piantas, especially if they already have the Yoshis to help! Also, we know that Bowser and Son were already there taking a break from trying to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom, and I established why Prof. E.Gadd wouldn't likely be there without a purpose, so Bowser Jr. could only have gotten the Magic Paintbrush from E.Gadd at Isle Delfino! EDIT: After checking the comments I've realised that the statement I made explaining why E.Gadd would only be there for Business reasons was made in reply to a different thread. I'll see if I can locate it and Copy/Paste here...

@@lianaverwood9810 As far as i remember, E.Gadd specifically mentioned in LM1 that he tried to warn Mario, but Mario rushed in without hearing him. In fact, we meet E.Gadd in the mansion with the Poltergust, so he could also have tried to reach Mario and give it to him. Plus, as someone pointed out in this comment section, both the paintbrush and F.L.U.D.D. have slightly different symbols on them (the one on the paintbrush having a mean look on it). Also the Paintbrush is specifically referred to as "the magic paintbrush" and E.Gadds inventions usually don`t use Magitek. Based on that i could claim that E.Gadd has a twin brother making the more villainous inventions.

She is not talking about the timelines shes talking about that the wario brothers and king boo were invited to come to the party and that egad was probably helping by making gadgets to help certain players, he was trying to make the party more exciting, not help out the villians.

You seem to have fallen into the same pitfall as MatPat here; Confirmation Bias. Just skewed toward the opposite conclusion. MatPat may have extrapolated greed or ill intent from places it probably wasn’t, but you’re also quite quick to defend things that are actually suspicious. For example, saying Bowser Jr was given the paint brush because Gadd bought the Shadow Mario disguise is a bit of a leap, especially since the disguise is most likely created by the paintbrush, considering Bowser Jr has never shown the ability to shapeshift without the brush. As for FLUDD being left in the open, the airport, where it was likely shipped from the mushroom kingdom to then be delivered to whoever ordered it, was under attack by the goop Piranha Plant for who knows how long before Peach’s plane touched down, so it could easily have been lost or misplaced by the panicking airport staff who don’t know what it is before it could be delivered to its rightful owner, and activated for Mario because he was in the Gadd customer database. You also threw in the “senile old man” excuse quite a bit, which doesn’t really track. If his senility or dementia were as bad as your argument would imply, so bad that he would sell the King Boo painting without realizing it was a bad idea to do so, he probably wouldn’t be capable of running a business, let alone making scientific breakthroughs or complex inventions.

E Gadd isn't Senile or Demented. No one has said this. What has been said is that E. Gadd is an old coot who doesn't see the consequences, he just does things without much thought. And no, Miku hasn't fallen into the same Pitfalls as Mat Pat, because while not perfect, she can actually back up her reasonings.

He didn't call bowsers minions, he fell down in a cave and all of his captured boos escaped from his poltergeist, thats when he found bowsers minions in the cave. Being a senile old man, he probably didn't know that they are working for bowser and thought that they could help him find his boos, he probably didn't call the mushroom kingdom because he probably wasn't thinking about it at the moment or he didn't have any other equipment to contact them with, so his only option was to ask bowsers minions for help.

I understand poking holes I have a few myself such as bowser junior had been lying throughout mario sunshine and could have easily lied about E Gadd giving him the paintbrush and stolen it, but certain arguments you made don't make sense. A. The paintbrush is what allowed bowser junior to disguise as mario B. Mario does have a timeline and sequence of events if you know how to separate them out and can pick up on context and C. the portrait ghosts, they all have rooms/places specifically catered to them implying this home is there's with that in mind they have every right to keep the mansion the way they want (dark) and keep someone out without care and who's to say they know about mario no one tells them anything or orders them to stop Luigi they just want their home the way it is and to be left alone. Also that damage most of them do to Luigi is because of him running up to them, if they didn't do it in self defense he would have just used the vacuum on them. Although I will give you complete credit with partners in time he made mistakes and most of Gadd's blunders can be chocked up to his pride and the fact the shrooms are such monsters.

To counter point A. He explicitly pulls his bandana off his mouth to remove his disguise plus the disguise is more transparent than his ink, which means the disguise doesn`t have to come from the brush. There is other magic in the Mario universe, too. To counter point B. Cameos and references are not evidence. And "picking up on context" shouldn`t be used to defend Game Theory, considering how many times it is proven that they take scenes OUT OF CONTEXT. I could make the argument, that every game in the NSMB series is a different retelling of the same tale, based on the simple premise that the games are absolutely identical in context and it is just as valid as your "Mario does have a timeline". To counter point C. E. Gadd literally stated, that both the portrait ghosts were taken from him by Boolossus and that they conjured the house recently. They could have just remade the house from memory or specifically conjured it to accomodate everyone. (And you cannot prove that E. Gadd lied about that, so due process is in effect.) Plus the literal first interactions Luigi has with the ghosts is the ghosts attacking him. (remember the Salon, where the talking portraits mocked him, shut the doors, so he couldn`t flee, and sent the small ghosts after him?) Plus the smaller more aggresive ghosts are literally created by a portrait ghost.

Yes game theory does take things out of context to make an entertaining theory but this video was back when they weren't trying to PROVE their theories true like all the lore videos but just wanted to make entertaining theories with lots of evidence even if it wasn't the creators intention. Of course Mario wasn't SUPPOSED to be psycho but there was lots of evidence to it and it made for one of the best videos on the channel and yes sonic is supposed to be "the fastest thing alive" but the science didn't support it. And finally none of the regular ghosts seem to have a solid personality unlike the portrait ghosts just like how normal goomba's are mindless drones while Goombella and Professor Frankly are clearly exceptions.

Some are ganging up on Luigi, some are waiting for Luigi to be occupied with sucking the portrait ghosts, some are throwing bombs and banana peels as distractions, some are deliberately making themselves invisible (in the mirror and projection room), some are hanging on the ceiling or hiding in furniture etc. etc. If they were "mindless drones" they would just attack Luigi on sight with no tactic whatsoever. Same goes for the Goombas, (and by the way, nice how you are ignoring MatPats "we are only told one side of the story"-mantra here) because every time they are in the spotlight (The RPGs, Bowsers Minions, etc.) it is shown, that they have personalities. Also to make a good example, Captain Goomba from Bowsers minions explicitally mentions that he got stomped multiple times by Mario already, proving MatPats "Marios jumps are like an elephant crushing" flat-out wrong. You have clearly shown that the only mindless drone here is YOU, regurgitating everything MatPat claims without second thought and spreading his bullshit wherever you go, damaging fanbases in the process. There are MANY, MANY people, who do a far better job than MatPat (Lockstin, Zeltik, Reploid REVO, The JWittz etc.), yet many are citing his easily disproven crap as "THE TRUTH TM". Do the world a favor and piss off to your cult.
