The genius of “Set the soothsayer free” is that Shen is in denial of how wicked he truly is. Him sparing the Soothsayer is his way of coping with the last reminder of his parents. He wants to believe so badly that they’d forgive him, so he spares their friend, as if that would excuse what he did. But he’s just that far gone

About Shifu saying it was his worst day being out of character, on that day, Po, someone with no prior fighting experience was chosen to be a dragon warrior, and after what happened with Tai Lung, Shifu got mad and looked at it as a bad day, of course like you said he was mostly just joking that it was the worst (his worst was the day Tai Lung attacked) but even then the context was over inner peace, and in the first movie Shifu started meditating to try to avhieve it not long after Po was chosen, how does RSG conclude its out of character. I also want to add to Tigress, the reason she was softer with Po is because she saw that because of trauma, he was endangered multiple times because he stood still out of shock(for example in the begining he was first doing well against the wolves, but once he saw the symbol the boss wolf managed to knock him) and she concluded that for Po its too dangerous, but the reason she went back to being hard with the others is because they have no trauma relating to Shen, so with them they could form a plan where they defeat Shen, and they all survive and plus they are all experienced fighters, who have fought dangerous enemies before. "The only thing really different is Shen" first of all, having a Main Antagonist different from the previous is a rather big difference, especially since he has a different plan, different fighting style, he is a threat mostly psychologically and through intelligence, so because of him the consequences result in a much different narrative, this time the story is about learning about his traumatic past, and coming to terms that its still the rest of his story is important, and achieving greatness is about what he does in the present, the previous movie was a chosen one story where he has to push forward while not many believe in him, and finds out that the Dragon Warrior is just a label and there is no secret ingredient, its about how he works for it. Amazing Lucas would actually be able to prove this movie is not innovative enough. But jesus RSG's video is hilariously bad (this is definitely his worst video so far, yes its worse than his Invincible Review), the only compliments I can give to this video is the mic quality is good and what it didnt do (for example at least there is no racism in it) but otherwise there is nothing redeeming about it, the points are complete garbage, he comes off as smug (for example his tone at alot of parts can be condescending or showing the image of the director) , he does not elaborate on a lot of points well (and like mentioned earlier all his elaborations he does say are frankly not good), how some of his fans defend his video is beyond me (although even most of his fans said this video is bad, most of the top comments do not like his review. I wish I was able to see the dislike ratio)

13:34 I like how he tried to use Megamind as an example for why it’s bad to make your bad guy’s look incompetent when the point of Megamind is that deep down he isn’t truly a villain. He was just mistreated because of the way he looked and was convinced the only way he could be accepted in anyway by society would be if he became a villain they could root against. However the movie shows he treats being a villain more as a game he and Metroman played and that he never took it 100% seriously. In the scene he mentions Roxxane is very cool headed cause she has been through this enough times to know he isn’t actually going to harm her and that his plan to defeat Metroman will fail as usual and while the movie does make you think he did succeed in defeating Metroman we learn that he did indeed fail and Metroman just faked his death. After he supposedly succeeds in killing Metroman Megamind tried to create another superhero cause he realized being the city’s boogeyman was pointless and full without someone to try and challenge him. When the person her grants those powers to turns evil and makes it clear he intends to actually kill Megamind, Megamind is legit startled by this because Metroman never actually threatened him in that way further establishing that he didn’t take this thing very seriously. All this causes Megamind to question the role he has been playing this whole leading to his redemption arc where he ironically is able to defeat someone with the powers of Metroman because now as a hero because his intentions is no longer to try and fit into what society told him he was, but rather to actually tackle a legitimate threat to the city.

One thing I like about Shen is that compared to Tai Lung, Kai, the Chameleon, and all the villains from the TV Shows, is that Shen’s death was not because of Po, but rather himself. Po didn’t banish him to the Spirit Realm with the Wushi Finger Hold, or gave him too much chi, or just let the spirits of dead warriors take him away to the Spirit Realm with them after defeating him thanks to the help of his apprentice… what caused him to die was his own weapon falling onto him, with Shen himself even accepting his fate. There’s a comment I found when I was watching Schaffrilas Productions’ video on Kung Fu Panda 2, that analyzes Shen’s character. It reads as follows… “Shen himself could be considered a warrior of black and white, since his color scheme is primarily white with some black accents. Everything Shen did, from weaponizing gunpowder, killing the pandas, and trying to conquer China led him inexorably to his own death. It’s almost a Greek tragedy in that he is his own undoing. Po is the primary opposing force to Shen, but only because of the consequences of Shen’s actions.” That being said… Lord Shen was a really compelling bad guy. While I now prefer Tai Lung & Kai, and some of the villains from the shows, I still admired Lord Shen for being one of the best animated villains, and one of the best roles Gary Oldman has ever played. But he’ll never top Gary Oldman’s best role… Lord Vortech.

Rsg's video screams of misunderstandings and or pure bad taste. Starting with his stance on Po. Po, as a character, has only gotten better from the first. His growth from learning of his own past and trying to move on from said past is a natural evolution of his arc from the first film. He's still the funny Jack Black Panda we knew but he has more layers and goes through more struggles. The way he just downplays the direction and story of the film just feels knitpicky most times or is just blatantly wrong. The clip where he shows the destruction of Shen's fleet and slowly fades in to Shen defeated, with the slow rising shot revealing the cannon is the most moot fucking point. This, people, is what we call an establishing shot. It shows us the cannon so that it doesnt come out of nowhere in the end. Also, "The story doesnt set up innerpeace well" is such bullshit man. Shifu telling Po about innerpeace at the beging and him balancing the water drop is just blatant foreshadowing to Po finding innerpeace. To add on to the steller direction of the film, the same editing techniques are brought back in the climax where he deflects the cannon shots. How was this not built up in Rsg's mind? Idfk. He did have one, ONE soild point being Shifu doesnt really interfere that much till the end, which is a valid criticism, until you relealize Oogway did the same thing in 1. By his logic, Oogway is a piss poor teacher for ditching Shifu when Tai Lung, a dangerous warror who can solo the five low diff, escapes. See what I mean by him not understanding his own critics and this film at large? His take on Shen is the most braindead one in his video. Shen is much more than some bloodthirsty maniac that whats to rule China. He is a broken, psychotic, tragic character terrified of fate. Once he found out about his 'destiny', which mind you he didnt have to even believe, he goes and wipes out entire Panda villages. He thought he did the right thing, which is why he "came to his parents full of Pride". It is also why he became furious and jaded about his parents which caused him to delude himself into beliving they always hated him. Shen is the living embodiment of Oogway's line: "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it" which is just a perfect way to summarize his character instead of just some random bloodthirsty warlord. He just doesn't understand the media he covers and honestly sounds like he's being negative to be unique. He is basically a worse Under the Mayo, who at least gives infinitely more reasons and backs up said reason even if they arent that good. Thats why his Invincible videos suck so bad. Thats why his KFP2 video sucks. He is media illiterate.

So a little story with me and my relationship with this sequel. Back then, I remembered watching this once as a child back then and thinking "Eh, it was alright". As a child, I was more exposed to the original KFP and the movie that made this franchise a trilogy. -I refuse to mention the 4th one since I saw that as an adult and the fact that my older brother forgot about it says something.- While I didn't hate KFP2, I was rather bewildered that it is seen as the golden child of the trilogy. So around... '22 I decided to give it a rewatch being a lot older and developed when I first originally saw it. And uh... honestly, from beginning to end, it really tugs my heartstrings whenever Po tells Mr. Ping that despite knowing his origins, Po still regards him as a father. Honestly, this movie does an excellent transition of Po's development from his perception of his self image from the previous movie to finding peace with his past and in a sense, finding peace with his own identity. I love this movie to bits, and it appals me to know that there are those that are completely ignorant to what it sets up and I'm glad to know that there are others that won't back down from clarifying against it. Great video BTW.

@Gibs4916 ай бұрын
@amongdrip8073 That sounds more like a problem With some people in the community rather than powers scaling its self Despite people who use that stan lee quote tell you having consistent/good power scaling/power system Is a good thing Because if you don't all tension In a story is pretty much removed Because the writer can just choose for The heroes to win at any point with not much of an explanation
@amongdrip80736 ай бұрын
@@Gibs491 Yes and Lee was right, Power scaling is not a good substitute for good/consistent writing because it relies on essential fanon assumptions to justify its conclusions, regardless of what pedantic nerds on the Internet say, at the end of the day the writers decide, I don't watch the stuff but look at the original power scaling material, Dragon Ball Z, I've seen analysis where certain characters would repeatedly fumble easy fights because the writer demanded it, the same reason why the same show has had characters repeatedly die and the world be destroyed on more than one occasion, for the sake of the plot. Power scaling is just an attempt at trying to give fans input/some kind of authority in this stuff which is a terrible idea, because fanboys are consistently misguided children that don't know what they want.
@Gibs4916 ай бұрын
@amongdrip8073 I never said power scaling Is a good substitute for a story I said having a consistent power scaling system helps a story like The flash is a perfect example of this 1 minute he can move faster than time The other he gets beaten by street level thugs It just creates plot holes and confusions And on the subject of dragon ball Is imagine of roshi beat jiren in the Tournament of power It would make no sense And feel unearned It's not. The most important thing about a story But if you don't consider it can lead plot holes And make the story worse
@amongdrip80736 ай бұрын
@@Gibs491 How does any of this justify power scaling In place of consistent writing? Power scaling is a terminally online past-time that values pointless debate and pedantry over real consistency. We already have a method of fixing the problems you brought up, it's called consistency, an aspect of good writing, power scaling has no place in this, precisely why it only exists in Internet spaces and should remain so.
