Appreciate this a lot. Been wondering about this for awhile. These responses look solid, will drill at the next opportunity. Any extra tips for when the grabber is significantly larger (and possibly lifting the person off the ground a bit)?
@Combatprofessor4 жыл бұрын
When you’re getting lifted by cloth, the cloth usually shifts and stretches so if your feet are still occasionally touching the floor, spread your feet, bend your knees and lightly bounce: and jump to keep your balance (think walking on the moon of rappelling down the side of a building). Avoid kicking attacks as you usually end up falling. Instead we use the hook and hop-hook i or grapevine one leg around the attackers leg and hop your hip in against them -this minimizes being rag dolled. If you’re fully lifted and suspended , scissor knees-drive one forward to hit and the other back. This shifts your weight explosively and makes you hard to hold. To be held aloft long term, usually they will pull you in closer. Then go for gouges, face and throat. If you have a good ground game, you can also sit, doin and work with your legs.

@@Combatprofessor Brilliant! I dig the kicking note, not intuitive that it's a bad idea. Tactical entanglement and thrashing. You mention the ground, I hit backspace on asking whether a tomoe nage throw would be worth considering! But ground work generally I can see. Thanks so much Kevin

@@FeralWorker sure. Drop waki gatame or a hip throw can work too but they’re not my first choice. It would depend on the environment, if multiples were present, etc.

I came from a different place but, my go to was always attack/destroy the elbow... never elegant, generally effective

I find the waki gatame style escape are a little size dependent. I love them as well but from experience I’ve found they’re hard to pull off against a much bigger person, or someone on drugs that’s rag dolling you. Most of the cloth grabs I’ve had ended up with me counter clinching

What if that person is grabbed by a stronger bigger attacker?
@Combatprofessor Жыл бұрын
The grip release concentrates a lot of power against the weakest aspects of the fingers so you can use it against significantly stronger grips. That being said, nothing is infallible. If you’re a child against an adult for example it might not be enough. So a few things to consider. 1-this is one of the simplest and most reliable gross motor movements you can use. If the aggressor is too strong for this to work, peeling fingers or twisting wrists is never gonna work. 2-some people teach to counter hit but a much stronger person is not going to respond to hits on the arm and if you attack the face or trunk they will usually straight arm you away. In fact, when I worked security I would often shirt grab and steer and disrupt people at arms length while hitting, and it was very hard for them to counter and in fact it was something I modelled after the best street fighters I saw . 3 -so normally i try a clean rip off first. If it fails, swim inside with your arms using your arm pit to lever the grip. Swing your arm over their grip and reach under their armpit while charging forward and try to hug their body. This is a little more refined and takes a slight bit more time but is even stronger. If I’m against a champion arm wrestler with an unbreakable grip then I go low. 4-so going low can include attempting to shoot the legs, slipping like a boxer under their grip and upthe other side which wreaks havoc on their fingers or worst worst case , drop to your seat and start piston kicking with your legs and pull them down so you can mail their eyes and throat. But going to the ground is last ditch.

@@Combatprofessor Hi Kevin, thank you for a very detail explanation. I tried my best to visualize those points one by one. I particularly may need your further elaboration on 'clean rip off first' - if you can explain it further, that would be great. In my class, I tried my best to find a way for a weaker or smaller person to solve this situation (grab in a collar) - so your input above is very appreciated. Even better, if you manage to add these movements to your future videos. I would like to ask you the effectiveness of this tactic: If someone stronger grab you like the one in your video, then either you strike the throat (if your life is in danger), or your curl up like a ball and rotate to the other side of the hand (if a right hand grabs, then you rotate your body to the left, after you make sure that you secure the grab tight to your body). Are these realistic or do these techniques work in real life situation? Thank you in advance. Ivan

@@ivansa9669 i just suggest you train a little bit of judo or jujitsu. You have to grip rip all the time and it’s the fastest way to understand. Throat hits are possible but you’re assuming he’s completely cooperative. It’s hard to land throat hits when you’re being thrown about. Plus it begets the use of force issue of having used a potentially lethal response for simply being touched. In many cases it won’t be considered justified. Curling up in a ball is fine if you keep moving but you need to do something with it otherwise a motivated attacker will just beat you down.

@@ivansa9669 we do a lot of work against lapel with and without blade in my street proof camp. Even the. It’s effective escapes are difficult in terrible circumstances. At the 55 second mark in this trailer, Marc Andre who is about 5’6., is partnered with Nico who is 6”7” and highly skilled. It’s a very tough situation.
