Beelden boardingteam Hr. Ms. Tromp van bevrijdingsactie koopvaardijschip Taipan

Het ministerie van Defensie heeft beelden vrijgegeven van de bevrijdingsactie door Hr. Ms. Tromp van een Duits koopvaardijschip op tweede paasdag. Op de video is te zien hoe het boardingteam, bestaande uit de Unit Interventie van het Korps Mariniers, door een Lynx-helikopter aan boord van het schip Taipan wordt gezet. De beelden zijn vastgelegd met de helmcamera van een van de leden van het boardingteam.
De bevrijdingsactie van de bemanning leidde uiteindelijk tot de arrestatie van 10 piraten.

@DesecratedReaper well it's a helmet cam, not necessarily mounted exactly where the eyes are looking. who knows where his eyes were. when he's firing his carbine at the beginning, it's a prime example. cam's looking to the side, but he's obviously looking down his weapon. still, soldiers are usually trained to fight without staring at their feet.

Actually the Marines now have their own special ops teams. It's fairly new but now is up and running. By the way, this kind of mission was what the very first marines did. So it seems like it would be part of their normal operations, rather than spec-ops. Well, except for the dropping from helicopters part.

Goedemorgen Bas! Allereerst excuses voor de late reactie. Indien piraten op heterdaad worden gearresteerd, worden ze in tijdelijke detentie genomen door de Koninklijke Marine aan boord van het marineschip. Doorgaans proberen we arrestanten zo kort als mogelijk aan boord van het schip te houden en zo snel mogelijk te transporteren naar het land waar ze vervolgd en berecht gaan worden. Transport met een helikopter naar land is daarbij een optie. Hopelijk is het zo een beetje duidelijker geworden! ^A

Marineschepen vergroten de veiligheid langs de scheepvaartroutes door de Golf van Aden en de Hoorn van Afrika bij Somalië. Zij verstoren en ontmoedigen hiermee zeerovers. Het aantal gekaapte schepen is sinds 2012 sterk gedaald. Bestrijding van piraterij blijft nodig. ^M
