the non contact AC voltage detectors (test pens) are a cool tool to have , on the "rare" occaison the switch can be off but the wires still live.

+closertothetruth this is true you can never be too safe, I have one of those pens somewhere in my toolbox

I don't have the wires coming out of the wall so I cut one end of and industrial extension cord and attached to the light and plug the other end to the wall. It works perfect!

Well, that's against code, but if you're not worried about fire and safety or an inspection, OK.

I have a similar light that I swapped halogen to led. I was constantly blowing halogen bulbs and now going for a year with no issues. Best thing i did. Led lighting from now on.

Do you notice a cost savings? What colors are you using? I really dont like the "feel" of bright white but it is really good lighting for working areas.
@TestDontguess7 жыл бұрын
it's hard to say a true cost savings but i'm seeing 10ish dollars a month difference
@matth67627 жыл бұрын
Ya i hear ya. I have trimmed $50 a month on my electric bill from what it was a year ago but i have spent more on the bulbs than i have saved on my bill. I have probably spent over $500 on bulbs (you dont realize how many lights you have until you start replacing them with $25 led bulbs) and only saved $200 over the past year and a half.

Question it seem like ours only works great at picking up motion when it's on test. Has anyone had the same problem? Can use some help, or advice to take it out of test!

I just replaced a double head, halogen motion detector light, that was on my garage wall and it lit up the area leading to my front door. This was the unit I replaced it with because the motion sensor on my original unit was failing to turn on the light. This unit, with both heads lit up, does not throw even enough light, that is greater than what one head threw of the halogen light. And this light is very cold and does not show your surrounding in a very flattering or true color of light. There is insufficient light value and finding the right key when opening the door is difficult as it is still too dark. I have sourced a new motion detector and I plan to replace the old motion detector on my original halogen light. If it all works when hooked up on the test table I will replace this LED product that I installed. I am now on the hunt for more double head halogen units. Thankfully you can still buy the tubular bulbs. These LEDs are not as bright as the halogens. They maybe cheaper to run and last longer. But I have found them to be more expensive and they do not work as effectively throwing light out. It really is a different brand of light. One I don't like. Very disappointed in their performance, they are NOT better than the halogens if it's light that you want. .

That’s too bad I really like the led lights vs what I had before the white is much whiter abs lights up more space
@hardrock18263 жыл бұрын
@@TestDontguess The light does appear to the eye to be whiter. As I indicated, it's a much colder temperature of light. It does not compare in color to the halogen lights I have in other locations around my home. Those halogen lights are much closer in temperature value to real daylight, which is around 5500K. The other issue I have with these LED lights. The light falls off too quick, the halogen light projects much further. I have already done some comparisons around my home and stood back to witness the difference. The halogen I replaced, I bought as many as I needed a few years ago, when I had this home built. So the other halogens I have still in operation are the same unit as that one I took down. Without question, the halogens throw a much warmer light that extends beyond the distance than what this LED can. And I find the halogen light to be more pleasing in look, probably because it registers as being more natural. The LED showing whiter comes off as being very harsh. I actually find the light from this LED as being somewhat eerie. It's kind of like the light value that registers in infrared imaging, it's kinda creepy. I'm going to replace this motion sensor, I have a replacement already and I will remove the LED to put the halogen back up. By the way, just one piece of important information about my halogen lights. The bulbs that go in them are those long tubular glass type bulbs that are 3 or 4 inches in length. They come in different watt outputs, these I have are all 250W. I don't know if there are bigger LED lights for lighting larger areas, there certainly were halogens of different sizes with that in mind. I have seen those LED lights where they have three heads. That's probably the only solution they have at this time. I have one large square halogen that I have had for years, still in the box. I bought it but I really don't require the amount of light this thing will throw at this time. These halogens do tend to throw a lot of light. The double head above my garage/shop lights up my whole driveway and beyond. It lights up enough of my neighbors drive, that they can see at 5 AM in the morning when they leave for work. They have thanked me for years. If you are happy with your LED lighting, that's what is important. All the best.

Thanks Jerry Im in the market for some as well. Question how long have you had this light up and running? And did you notice any changes on the amount of light put out.
@TestDontguess7 жыл бұрын
+Dave Tumbleson the light output is softer only because the other lights were a harsh yellow. I like them as they use less power than the other lights
