THE DEFICIT SPLIT SQUAT
-
The “deficit” split squat is an exercise that is super effective at getting all of the benefits of single leg variations such as the Rear Foot Elevated Bulgarian Split Squat, all the while avoiding the potential detriments of mobility, balance, and strength restrictions.
-
This exercise is done by artificially elevating the “flow” you are standing on by using mats, plates, or anything; and then allowing for a greater degree of “drop” to occur by the back leg which will open up the capacity for a much larger ROM and therefore a greater likelihood of progress accumulated.
-
Derek Wilcox made a super similar video yesterday speaking on for position and an artificial elevation of the floor during a Bulgarian which capitalizes on aspects of what I am asserting here, but if you are a lifter looking to get a little bit more out of your leg training TRY BOTH and consider which one will be appropriate to be applied in your very own program. And always remember to not only think, but also experiment outside of the box you may find yourself in occasionally!
