Cheers Jim. My sister had a diesel Sportage 2017. Heaps of faults. And the steering issue had potential to be very dangerous. Sold it when it neared the end of the 7 year warranty. I always assumed she’d just had a lemon. Potentially not from these results.

Regarding the MG4 "gearbox/clutch", we had a MG ZS EV and the drive gear reduction box needed replacing, so I'd assume (rightly/wrongly) this just fits into the gearbox/clutch category... 🤷♂

Yes, exactly this. Older Renault Zoe’s often have issues with their reduction gearbox. It’s only one gear but I think it’s still technically a “gear box”

Something weird about the MG stats - they have a 7 year warranty, so shouldn't they all have been fixed for free if the warranty is any good?

We had a 2020 mini copper manual (69 reg) from new, at 30k miles and 2 years old we kept getting drivetrain errors. Popped into dealership and they said we'll need to get inside and figure out if its a wear and tear issue or warranty cover. If its wear and tear then minimum diagnosis fee is £2400. Complete BS, sold it on the spot and ended any possible purchase of a mini ever again.

The MG4 when I was kinda wanting to buy put me off, because they did indeed have reduction gear issues in the drive motor which leaked oil some of them were not fit to drive until resolved, maybe that’s what the stat is about but i hope it’s fixed now, maybe some MG owner will comment :)

I think it would be helpful if WhatCar also listed the number of cars that the percentages are based on. If they have reports eg on 10 MG4s or Porsche Boxters then 90% = only 9 cars. But eg 500 Skoda Octavias needs 450 cars to hit the 90% mark. It might put the listed issues into a more useful perspective. Just a thought.

The gearbox may be the reduction gearbox. My e Nero was just fixed for free by Kia. The issue was the early e neros where a bearing fails. If the first service is not done early, the oil in the reduction box can get particles that causes a bearing to wear. Toyota have a magnetic plug to prevent this. Perhaps this is why the MG box goes. Always check the print for the first service. Eg Kia has to be done at 12 months or 10k whichever is earlier. Kid are okay if not exact but I can imagine others not being so good. Same for ICE cars as well.

@roberthartley662920 күн бұрын
The issue with EV 12V batteries is simple. With an ICE car when the engine is on the alternator is charging the 12v but then not On you drain the battery. Ford had a massive ICE car issue with battery issues. In an EV some people think the EV battery keeps the 12V charged but this is only when fully on or going. This is why some have a “Utility mode” to not drain the battery when not moving. EG when parked up for a while. I have a simple volt meter to test my battery Is over 12.6V (12V is a dead battery) which I did with my ford focus as well and a battery emergency start pack. I go into the Scottish mountains so have to be prepared. No different if it is an EV or ICE car.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru20 күн бұрын
So simple that nobody has fixed it - it’s daft that new cars require the owner to carry a volt meter. The 12v issue could surely be resolved by more robust battery technology and more efficient or larger alternators. A number of EVs trickle charge the 12v from the HV even when not in use by the way.
@roberthartley662920 күн бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruI only Cary a volt meter because I use it in my tech business. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother. I know some trickle charge. The E-Nero does this but only 2x/day (midnight is one) for one hour. Interesting that new Kia’s do this trickle charge 4-6x/day now to save the battery.
@GregAnslow20 күн бұрын
I might be wrong but my 21 ionic 38 automatically conditions the 12v battery when it’s off. Flashes it’s dash light when it’s doing it
@roberthartley662919 күн бұрын
@@GregAnslow Yes it does but my e-nero only does this at certain times. See the videos from MrEV Andrew Till where he works it out from a battery monitor to suss out his problems. I do love my EV's even though I can not charge at home. Just a lovely driving experience. :-)

I’m really going through an extremely rough patch at the moment lost my car which I brought two years back due to engine problems costing me 5k as I had to scrap it.Was seriously thinking of going for a new juke on lease as payments are very low and bang I see this video showing Nissan Juke the least reliable car.Really worried sick now can you please advise if I will be hit with huge repair bills in the first two years and should I take the maintenance or service plan of the lease company when leasing this car
@DefinitelyNotAGuru20 күн бұрын
Maintenance only covers servicing and tyres and warranty should cover the rest. I’d have a chat with your Nissan dealership about any issues that the warranty would not cover (in my opinion user error/abuse and normal wearables like brake pads are the only things that shouldn’t be covered but get it from them.

Nissan really do seem to be far more unreliable than they use to be , certainly of the large Japanese manufacturers the worst, saying typical the Juke is Sunderland built. Only thing they sell in Europe thats reliable is the micra that's built in the Clio plant in France & has many Clio parts & the complete engine range other than the hybrid. Honda may regret the merger but will Honda return to manufacturing here in Britain.
