A lot of people don't seem to know or understand or realize this fact but Mortal Kombat Shaolin monks is not canon in the Mortal kombat universe/lore. It's just a recreation of Mortal kombat 2. It's a spin off game nothing more.

Shaolin Monks was going to be canon but fans didn't understand the events cause most of it never happened so Midway decide to make it non canon and it's non canon cause majority of the main characters died.

Basically, the reason why Liu Kang and Kung Lao got so many fatalities is because they're the default playable characters in Story Mode. Sub-Zero and Scorpion are also playable in Story Mode, but they replace Liu Kang in the cutscenes, and have to be unlocked, either in Story Mode or through cheat codes. The rest of the playable characters are only playable in Versus mode (and they have to be unlocked in Story Mode) Also, Ermac, Kano and Mileena (alone) are secret, optional boss fights. Although, it's pretty important that you do the Kano fight because it's right before the last bosses (Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn), Jax will help you, and because Jax will leave you a health pickup for the final boss gauntlet (and you're gonna need it, since you'll be fighting Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn back-to-back)

Context on Inferno Scorpion, basically Round 2. Scorpion survived the first Fatality , jumping out of the Lava, now extremely pissed and on fire. Second time stuck as he was now being actively dragged in the lava, and yes it's a direct reference to the Terminator.

Sub-Zero's and Scorpion's brutalities resemble Liu Kang's and King Lao's respectively because they are the only four chatacters playable in story mode and when you pick them separately, Sub-Zero takes Liu Kang's place in Story Mode and Scorpion takes Kung Lao's, except, of course, if you're playing them together (Liu Kang and Sub-Zero or Kung Lao and Scorpion). You can see that Liu Kang and Sub-Zero have the same brutality (shooting stuff) and Scorpion and Kung Lao as well (cutting monsters with something).

15:31 Yeah, it was part of the boss fight in the story. Baraka and his people were murdering alot of Shalion monks and collecting their souls for Shang Tsung. However, once you beat him, the souls of the monks are getting their justice.

I still think one of the best cutscenes in this game. baraka literally tortures and murders a monk and then tosses him. Fucking kung lao walks up and asks "are you ok?" Lol like really dude? But man when this released back in the day on ps2, i had expected a fighting game. But was met instead with an adventure with rpg elements and I was not dissapointed. There a petition to have ed boon either remake this or finally make a sequel that was canceled. Also as you can see. Alot if these fatalities were later used in other instalments of mortal kombat

I love the both of y’all’s reactions for MK Shaolin Monks fatalities. I was wondering when y’all were going to do it, and I’m glad this happened. That fatality where Kung Lao takes the bunny out of his hat and his opponent was like “No I don’t want it.” And then Kung Lao is like “No you’re taking the bunny and I’m beating you to death with it.” That might’ve been one of the scariest but funny fatalities that the developers came up with. And I was just as disappointed as Bethany was when Sonya wasn’t playable and so on.

Yeah you definitely should can't recommend this game enough, but this game is pretty much stuck on old hardware being exclusive to the ps2 and original xbox, what I would recommend is emulation but you would need pretty decent pc to run but if you want to stay somewhat true to form then I would get a ps2 copy and a backwards compatible launch fat ps3 that still has ps2 compatibility and play that way. As for xbox they may have a backwards compatible patch for shaolin monks so you can play it on their most recent console but I don't play on xbox so I can't really say for sure, but regardless of which way you go about it remember to have a blast when playing it.

With them having all these timelines thanks to the introductions of Kronika, it would be really fun if they could do a remake of this or something and have it where Fire God Lui Kang goes back into this timeline for something. Maybe having it where some villain is brings back this timeline and Fire God Lui Kang has to have the people in the timeline fight off the threat, and prevent people from changing the timeline. It would be fun since they could do their own story for this as an alternate timeline, and maybe even have a side mode where you have an extra story for Scorpion and Subzero (as a nod to the Shaolin Monks sequel Fire and Ice that we never got).

This game you just played as Liu Kang and Kung Lao it was like an action adventure type game, then you could unlock Sub Zero and Scorpion to go through the game again, and then just some other characters for vs. That's why the first 2 had all the fatalities. Mostly everyone else were copy/paste from the 3D games.

Oh i forgot to mention, for the longest time I thought it was a glitch they didn't add the announcer saying Fatality when you won the Reptile Boss fight, but returning to the boss area later and his body is just gone. So implying Reptile survives.

I actually discovered a glitch in this game with my brothers. Before one of the secret boss fights, there's platforming you have to do, including swinging on a pole to get past a large gap. If you play in Coop mode and have the other person go ahead and activate the secret fight, you'll be teleported into the area but stay swinging in the air into you take damage or make any movements.

this game is basically showing love to the og fans of mk. In this game it shows many things that would be shared around school lunches back in the day come to life, for example what are the eyes in Goro's lair, the Ermac creepy pasta where a weird ninja statue that doesn't have a name explodes and out pops a mysterious red ninja, a secret stage fatality where the trees in the spooky woods would eat their enemy when they do the correct code and much, much more. I recommend watching 616Entertainment go a little bit into depth about this and he also goes into depth about what it was like back then when the mk series became a thing, would love to see you both react to it.
