Shouldn't come as a surprise when Ahsoka identified herself as, "Commander Tano". She's held that rank since her introduction to the series during the Battle of Cristophsis.

This arc was the introduction to Saw Gerrera, who would be brought back later for the Rogue One movie, played by Forest Whitaker (who would reprise the role in several other projects, including Jedi: Fallen Order) The tactics he would go on to employ against the Empire in his later years were learned in this arc, from Anakin of all people.

Clone Wars has several story-arcs that mirror real world battles / wars. The re-invasion of Geonosis was D-Day in World War II, the Umbaran arc felt very much like the Vietnam War, and this Onderon arc is essentially Charlie Wilson's War, where the US trained and supplied Afghanistan rebels to fight the Soviet Union in the 80s.

otherwise far more commonly know as the Aghan War. Which was one of the main causes of the Breakup of the Soviet Union.

Onderon was, by far, my favorite planet in the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II game, and to see it in Rebels is such an amazing call-back. I also love how we get to learn how Saw Gerrera gets trained in how to be a rebel insurgent, leading to the rebellion that fights against the Empire.

He was great in Rebels but in Force Awakens he's a poorly acted character and a broken man. His death was as meaningless as Han Solo's or Luke's.

It’s funny that the Jedi talk about terrorism and how it would be unethical to help Saw and his cell in training for acts of terror on the planet…. Reminds me of a certain rebellion in the future of the Star Wars universe 🤔

And season 5 is a-go! The Onderon arc is another very interesting look at just how far the Jedi have strayed from their ideals during the war. The council discussion does a good job pointing out all of the reasons why this is definitely not the Jedi way, and then they go ahead and do it because it will help the war effort. It's also pretty funny that Anakin suggests training the rebels, even calling them insurgencies, setting up the rebellion that he will be fighting to destroy just a short time from now as Vader. He planted the seeds that would topple his own Empire and lead to his death and the death of Sidious. So, fun facts for today: the planet Onderon is making it's first appearance in canon with this arc. It first shows up in Legends in the first issue of the Tales of the Jedi comic book series by Dark Horse Comics published in October 1993. But, most people familiar with Legends would remember it from its major role in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. A good chunk of the game takes place on both Onderon and its moon Dxun. This arc is probably most remembered for creating the character Saw Gerrera. I won't go too deep into spoilers, but I will say that he goes on to play a pretty big role in upcoming events. We also get introduced to his sister Steela Gerrera who, yes, does seem to have a bit of a love triangle going on with Ahsoka and the returning Lux Bonteri. A little odd considering Ahsoka's around 16 and we don't really know how old Lux or Steela are, but they seem to be closer in age than Lux and Ahsoka. Oh, just to clear up any confusion about Ahsoka's rank: Jedi Knights and Masters held the rank of General in the Grand Army of the Republic, and since their Padawans would often accompany them and only took orders from their masters, they were given the rank of Commander to signify that. Well that's all I've got for this episode. See you all for part 2!
