This is one thing I love about the Tournament of Power - the different universes reflect different genres. It's basically a love letter to anime as a whole, even while parodying the other types, it shows an appreciation for them. Universe 2 is magical girls. Universe 3 is mecha anime. We don't see much of universe 4 but they appear to be a bit more traditional fantasy. Universe 6 is shonen, just like 7. Universe 9 was post-apocalyptic (and furry). Universe 10 is harder to place but is close to shonen as well. And Universe 11 is a mix of super sentai and traditional superhero stuff.

@ a reference is a short clip or moment from a series. These are contestants for the TOP, strong ones at that. Ones that have entire episodes dedicated to them, it’s far more than a reference. Not to mention they are annoying af if you like them that’s fine but most people don’t.

The 11th and 2nd Universes share the twin dynamic that the 7th and 6th have. In their cases, they both represent "Sentai". A Japanese term that relates to superpower teams that pose a lot. But the 2nd Universe takes on the more feminine series like the anime franchise 'Sailor Moon'. In fact, their Destroyer looks she could pass for a villain in that show. The 11th takes on more of the classic masculine tropes of Sentai. Like Power Rangers for example. But they also remind me the DC universe. As their Destroyer and Angel look similar to Joker and Harley Quinn, and Jiren is like Superman and Batman in one person.

I used to hate Ribrianne and Universe 2, but honestly watching it back I appreciate the joke for what it is. Whereas before it felt like a waste of time keeping us away from the main event, now that I know what happens and how it ends, and more importantly, now that we don't have to wait a whole week for a new episode - I don't mind it and can actually enjoy the silly gag 💓💓

Remember how the universes are paired? Universe 11 is meant to parody Shonen/Tokusatsu shows, while universe 2 is parodying Magical Girl shows. One is making fun of guy shows and the other is making fun of girl shows.

Yes, Uni 2 has that OG Dragon ball humor for sure. It's also a jab at feminist and body culture has a whole. Overall they were cringe but slowly grew on me has one of my top 3 Universes in terms of creativity.

i love the fact that we have two "super hero universes" in the pride troopers and Ribriane and friends. I think the Z fights come off as cynical because over half of them(6 of10) were antagonists and the rest being gokus childhood teacher, his best friend and his son. I kinda wish they used videl in the top Would love to see team four star have a crack at this, but i doubt they will
